About this hotel
General information
Singita Sweni Lodge is tucked into riverine forest above the N’wanetsi River, with running water, birdsong and grunting hippos as a constant soundtrack. It is the smaller and more intimate of Singita’s two lodges on the company’s private concession inside Kruger National Park: with only seven suites, it feels secluded and personal. The decks seem to hover among the branches, and animals coming down to drink or wallow are often in view from the lodge itself.
The interiors are conceived as a jewel box, in teal, pink, emerald and tan, with metallic finishes, matte terracotta and marble, and motifs drawn from beetles, chameleons and birds’ wings. The main lodge holds a dining lounge, a bar and a fire deck. Guests have around 13,350 ha of wilderness to explore, home to elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo, white and black rhino, cheetah and sable. The lodge is open all year and children of all ages are welcome. All meals and drinks, premium ones included, twice-daily game drives and walking safaris are part of the stay.
Location
The lodge stands on Singita’s private concession in Kruger National Park. Scheduled and charter flights land at Satara airstrip, about 1 hr 30 min from Johannesburg. Singita staff meet guests for the roughly 45-minute drive to the lodge, which is included. By road, Johannesburg is about eight hours (around 600 km) away.
Spa
Sweni guests have spa and wellness facilities where treatments, set to birdsong and the sounds of the bush, are tailored to each person, combining massage, aromatherapy, sound therapy and mindfulness with references to the surrounding landscape. A resident yoga instructor leads private or group sessions in the suite, in a shared lodge space or out in the bush, and every suite has a yoga mat and a card with a self-guided routine.
Sports & leisure
Game drives with a personal field guide set out every morning and evening, and guided walks with a guide and tracker team teach guests to follow animal tracks on foot (recommended for ages 16 and over). Other experiences include:
- birdwatching and stargazing;
- a fitness centre with cardio machines, strength equipment and free weights;
- South African wine tastings with sommeliers in a temperature-controlled cellar;
- cooking classes in the demonstration studio of the Singita Community Culinary School at neighbouring Lebombo;
- the Singita Boutique & Gallery, with sculpture, homeware, carvings and jewellery by local craftspeople and work by African artists.
For children
Children can join the Mini Rangers Course, which covers animal tracking, astronomy, bush survival skills, spotting competitions and quizzes. There are also cooking sessions, board games, stargazing, arts and crafts, films and swimming, and childminding is available. Children join game activities at the guide’s discretion.
Restaurants & bars
Life centres on the main lodge, with its dining lounge, a deck laid for meals outdoors, a bar and a fire deck. Mealtimes are flexible, and food and drinks can be ordered by the pool as the sun goes down. All meals and drinks, premium ones included, are part of the stay.
Swimming
The main lodge pool looks over the N’wanetsi River, so time between swims and reading on a lounger is often interrupted by wildlife coming down to drink. The Pool Suite has its own private pool.
Rooms
Seven open-plan suites are hidden beneath the tree canopy: six Sweni Suites and one Pool Suite. Panoramic decks look over the river and the bush, and outdoor day beds allow a night beneath the stars.
Each suite has two bathrooms, an outdoor shower overlooking the river, a generously stocked minibar, an outdoor day bed, a hairdryer, Wi-Fi, and a yoga mat with a routine card.
Sweni Suite
An open-plan suite with double or twin beds, two bathrooms and an outdoor shower facing the river. The panoramic deck has a day bed for sleeping under the stars.
Pool Suite
A suite with double or twin beds, a private pool and a shaded riverfront deck, with its own guide and private game drives. It can be joined to the adjacent suite to make a two-bedroom, two-bathroom layout.
