Singita Lebombo Lodge

About this hotel

General information

Singita Lebombo Lodge sits on a rocky ridge above the N’wanetsi River, looking out over the valley and wild country running to the horizon. It is one of two Singita lodges on the company’s private concession inside Kruger National Park. The buildings are light and low: glass walls, timber, steel and layered fabrics in muted tones, with indoor and outdoor spaces flowing together and antelope often wandering along the walkways.

The suites are loft-style. The main lodge has a roof terrace, a library, a multimedia room, an interactive kitchen and an espresso bar. The Conservation Lounge and Gallery of Treasures, created with local artists and communities, tell the story of the region’s ecosystem and its conservation. The concession is known for its dense Big Five populations and four lion prides, and across the region the Singita Lowveld Trust works to protect rhino, leopard, lion, wild dog and vultures. Children aged 10 and over are welcome in the Lebombo Suites.

Location

The lodge stands on Singita’s private concession of around 13,350 ha in the south-eastern reaches of Kruger National Park, along South Africa’s border with Mozambique. Scheduled and charter flights land at Satara airstrip, about 1 hr 30 min from Johannesburg, and fly in daylight only. Singita staff meet guests for the 40–45-minute drive to the lodge, which is included. By road, Johannesburg is roughly eight hours (about 600 km) away.

Spa

Treatments take place in the lodge’s own wellness space, set among birdsong and the sounds of the bush. Each one is tailored to the guest, combining massage, aromatherapy, sound therapy and mindfulness with references to the regional landscape and culture. Guided yoga sessions are offered, and every suite has a yoga mat and instruction cards for self-led practice.

Sports & leisure

Game drives in open Land Rovers set out each morning and evening with a guide and tracker, with no more than eight guests per vehicle. Guided bush walks give a closer view of the ecosystem on foot (a minimum age of 16 is recommended). Drives and walks are included. Other experiences include:

  • birdwatching and stargazing under skies free of artificial light;
  • a state-of-the-art fitness centre with connected cardio machines, strength equipment and free weights, looking out over the bush;
  • personalised South African wine tastings and pairings led by sommeliers;
  • cooking classes in the demonstration studio of the Singita Community Culinary School, Singita’s flagship community programme in the region, with its campus at the lodge;
  • the Boutique & Gallery, with décor, craft, jewellery and contemporary art from across the continent.
For children

Young guests can join the Mini Rangers Course, which covers animal tracking, tree and bird identification, outdoor survival skills, astronomy and spotting competitions. There are also cooking sessions, board games, arts and crafts, films and activity booklets with games and puzzles, and childminding is available. Children join game drives and walks at the guide’s discretion.

Restaurants & bars

Food and wine are spread across several spaces in the main lodge:

  • Dining room — the lodge’s main dining room;
  • Long Bar — bar and lounge where the light shifts through the day;
  • Winter Lounge — a firelit lounge beside the rooftop terrace and wine cellar;
  • Wine Studio — tastings and pairings of South African wines from the lodge’s temperature-controlled cellar;
  • an all-day bar-deli and an espresso bar;
  • the boma — an open-air enclosure for dinners around the fire.

In the evening lanterns light the pool area for dinner under the stars. All meals and drinks, premium wines and spirits included, are part of the stay.

Swimming

Two long pools lie side by side above the N’wanetsi River, where elephants often come down to drink. Wide timber decks around them carry canvas loungers and large umbrellas, and drinks and lunch are served poolside.

Rooms

There are 13 loft-style Lebombo Suites. Glass walls open onto the wilderness, and raised timber decks allow guests to sleep outdoors under mosquito netting.

In each room

Each suite has a deck with an outdoor bed under mosquito netting, complimentary Wi-Fi, a hairdryer, and a yoga mat with instruction cards.

Lebombo Suite

A glass-walled loft suite with wide wilderness views and double or twin beds. The timber deck can be set up for sleeping outdoors under mosquito netting.
