InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town

About this hotel

General information

InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town fills an eight-storey building on the V&A Waterfront, at the point where Cape Town’s working harbour meets the outline of Table Mountain. The interiors take their cue from the city’s maritime past and the Cape landscape: soft curving lines, layered natural textures, a restful palette and windows placed to frame either the mountain or the water.

There are 306 rooms and suites, some on club floors with access to the Club InterContinental lounge, which offers personal check-in and serves breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapés against a Table Mountain backdrop. The building connects directly with the Victoria Wharf shopping centre, so the shops, restaurants and bustle of the waterfront begin at the door. Facilities include a heated outdoor pool, Spa InterContinental with a hammam and Cape botanical treatments, four restaurants and bars, and a complimentary kids’ club.

Location

The hotel stands on Quay 6 of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, between the harbour, the yacht marina and the Atlantic, with views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head; the city beaches are a few minutes’ drive away and the Cape Winelands, from Stellenbosch to Franschhoek, are within easy reach. The nearest airport is Cape Town International Airport; there is no hotel shuttle, but private car transfers are offered, and covered parking is available on site.

Spa

Spa InterContinental sits within the hotel and is open daily from morning to evening. It has a hammam, a sauna, a couples’ suite and steam showers, and its treatments are built around local botanicals and fynbos-infused oils. The signature rituals are Silence and Stone, with guided breathwork, dry brushing and a hot stone massage; Atlantic Awakening, a traditional hammam ceremony with a soap massage; Golden Glow, pairing a body polish with a brightening facial; and Nocturna, which uses acupressure and sound therapy to encourage deep sleep. The menu also covers massages, rooibos body polishes, Comfort Zone facials, manicures and pedicures, and treatments can be taken in the room.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre is open around the clock, with treadmills, elliptical trainers, a stationary bike, a rower and free weights. Golfers have two 18-hole championship courses nearby: Metropolitan Golf Club in Green Point, with mountain and ocean views, and Steenberg Golf Club among the vineyards of Constantia. The concierge arranges tastings and private visits to wine estates in the Cape Winelands, while sunset yacht cruises, helicopter flights over Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula, and rides on the Cape Wheel all leave from the waterfront.

For children

The Planet Trekkers kids’ club welcomes children aged 4–12 free of charge, with supervised play, creative sessions and discovery games inspired by local culture. Spa InterContinental runs a Mini Spa menu for 5–12-year-olds accompanied by an adult, with gentle facials, manicures and pedicures. A nanny can be arranged on request.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s four restaurants and bars sit on the lobby level and by the pool, joined by the club lounge, with menus that follow the Cape’s seasonal produce.

  • Flint & Fennel — all-day international dining on seasonal ingredients: generous breakfasts with harbour and mountain views, lunch, dinner and a signature afternoon tea
  • French bistro — classic French technique with Cape accents and a curated wine list, for lunch and dinner
  • The Botanist’s Table — a cocktail lounge pouring Cape botanical cocktails, regional gins and fine wines alongside small plates, from morning until late
  • Solandra — the pool deck, serving cocktails, spritzes, seasonal dishes and stone-baked pizzas
  • Club InterContinental — the lounge for club-room and suite guests, with breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapés

In-room dining is available 24 hours a day.

Swimming

The heated outdoor pool on the Solandra deck is open from 7 am to 7 pm, surrounded by loungers and umbrellas, with towels and poolside service. The hotel has no beach of its own; the city beaches are a few minutes’ drive away.

Pets

Pets are not accepted, with the exception of guide dogs and registered service animals.
