Delaire Graff Estate

About this hotel

General information

Delaire Graff Estate is a wine estate with lodges and a spa on the Helshoogte Pass above Stellenbosch, in the Cape Winelands. Its freestanding lodges sit in private gardens, their terraces looking across vines, the Stellenbosch Valley and the mountains beyond — Simonsberg, and from some lodges Table Mountain. The estate is a member of Relais & Châteaux.

Wine, food and art set the tone. The estate grows its own grapes and makes its own wines, poured in the Wine Lounge and the restaurants. A large private collection of paintings and sculpture fills the interiors and gardens, and the gardens themselves — more than 350 indigenous plant species, reflective pools and sculpture — are planted so that something is in flower on every day of the year. A fine-jewellery boutique and a 100% Capri boutique of Italian linen complete the estate.

Location

The estate lies on Helshoogte Road, which climbs the Helshoogte Pass from Stellenbosch towards Franschhoek; its gates are about 6 km up the pass. Cape Town International Airport is roughly 50 minutes away by car. A private transfer can be arranged for lodge guests, and the estate has its own helipads.

Spa

The Spa at Delaire Graff has four treatment suites, each with its own bathroom and dressing area: three open onto outdoor courtyards, the fourth is set aside for facials and skin treatments. A sauna and a steam room complete the facilities. The menu covers massage, facial and body treatments and half- and full-day spa journeys, using Augustinus Bader, Irene Forte and the estate’s own Jardin de Delaire products.

Sports & leisure

Time on the estate revolves around wine, gardens and art:

  • a 22-metre infinity pool with a Jacuzzi and a light-filled Technogym gym, reserved for lodge guests and spa-journey guests;
  • guided tours of the estate and its art collection;
  • walking trails through the vineyards and gardens;
  • tutored wine tastings in the Wine Lounge, one of them included in a stay;
  • horse riding, helicopter flights, golf and picnics in the area, arranged by the concierge.
For children

A babysitter can be arranged on request.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchens draw on the estate’s own vegetable garden and greenhouse:

  • Delaire Graff Restaurant — the estate’s signature restaurant: seasonal bistro cooking with South African accents, on terraces on the Simonsberg slopes overlooking the vines;
  • Hōseki — contemporary Japanese dishes for sharing, à la carte or as an omakase menu; lodge guests also take breakfast here;
  • Lorenzo’s — a small Italian restaurant under a timber pergola: antipasti, wood-fired pizza and handmade pasta;
  • Wine Lounge — an art-filled tasting room with a broad terrace facing the mountains and a log fire in winter, serving cheese and charcuterie platters;
  • Private Dining Room — an intimate, cellar-like room for private dinners.
Swimming

Every lodge has its own heated pool; in the two Presidential lodges it is 12 metres long. Lodge guests also have the estate’s heated 22-metre infinity pool and Jacuzzi.
