Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Cape Grace occupies its own quay on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, set between the working harbour and the yacht marina, with Table Mountain rising behind. Managed by Fairmont, it keeps to a classic register: bright rooms with French doors opening towards the water or the mountain, marble and teal seating in the restaurant, and bookshelves and South African art in the library-style lounge.

There are 113 rooms and suites, from 39 m² rooftop rooms to the 270 m² Cape Grace Suite with its broad fourth-floor terrace. The hotel is known for Heirloom and its modern South African cooking, the Bascule bar with more than 500 whiskies, afternoon tea to live piano, a Fairmont Spa with a salt room, and a heated outdoor pool beside the marina. Families have safari-themed rooms and a well-considered children’s programme.

Location

The hotel stands on West Quay Road, on a private quay between the V&A Waterfront and Cape Town’s yacht marina. Cape Town International Airport is 21 km away, 21–45 minutes by road depending on traffic; private transfers are arranged on request.

Spa

The Fairmont Spa has three treatment rooms, including a dedicated couples’ suite, plus a halotherapy salt room, a traditional sauna, a steam room, a sensation shower and quiet relaxation areas; in-house guests use the facilities free of charge. Treatments draw on indigenous botanicals, and the scent of fynbos runs through the space. The signatures are Tranquillity, a full-body massage with cupping, warm mud and a scrub; Purity, a deep-cleansing facial with gua sha; Serenity, which adds an oxygen facial; and Clarity, held in a double treatment room with its own steam room and balcony. Hot-stone and pregnancy massages, manicures and pedicures complete the menu.

Sports & leisure

Fairmont Fit, on the ground floor, is equipped by Technogym with treadmills, an elliptical trainer, spinning bikes, a dual adjustable pulley and free weights; it is open around the clock to hotel guests, and personal trainers or yoga instructors can be booked on request. For exploring the Waterfront and the city there are eight RE:CYCLE bicycles by Vélosophy, made from recycled aluminium and Nespresso capsules, reserved through the concierge with a helmet, lock and route map. The concierge also arranges golf days at De Zalze in the Cape Winelands, whisky tastings and outings across Cape Town and beyond.

For children

Young guests receive arrival activity packs and can join Africa-themed story time, movie nights with in-room dining, crafts and outdoor outings, with PlayStation 5 and board games to hand and seasonal gingerbread decorating. There is a Kiddies Afternoon Tea with a mermaid-and-sea-creature theme and colouring pens, spa treatments for young visitors, and children’s menus in the Library Lounge and by the pool. Professional, vetted carers look after children of every age, from babies to teens, when booked in advance.

Restaurants & bars

The restaurant and bars look out over the marina; the kitchen works with local produce, and the wine list leans on Stellenbosch and the country’s other wine regions.

  • Heirloom — modern South African cuisine built on seasonal local produce and heritage recipes; breakfast, lunch and dinner with views of the marina and Table Mountain, a private dining room for up to 10, and afternoon tea with a pianist from Thursday to Sunday
  • Bascule Bar — a speakeasy-style whisky and cocktail bar with a marina terrace, more than 500 whiskies from around the world, daily guided tastings and sharing plates; live jazz and DJs on selected nights
  • Cape Grace Wine Cellar — a cellar tucked inside Bascule, with rare vintages and boutique producers
  • Library Lounge — coffee, champagne and cocktails, all-day dining and a daily morning tea among the bookshelves
  • Pool Bar — light meals, snacks, cocktails and wines beside the pool

In-room dining is available.

Swimming

The heated outdoor pool sits on the hotel’s private quay, looking across the marina to Table Mountain, and stays open all year. In the warmer months bookable loungers are set out around it and the Pool Bar is in service.

Pets

Animals are not accepted, with the exception of guide dogs and emotional support animals.
