Capella Singapore

About this hotel

General information

Capella Singapore is an urban resort on a knoll of Sentosa Island, set in 30 acres of rainforest and landscaped gardens that look out over the South China Sea. At its core stand two restored bungalows from the 1880s on the site known as Tanah Merah, Malay for “red earth”; a contemporary wing of sweeping curves extends from them, shaped to follow the land and the greenery around it.

There are 113 rooms, suites, villas and manors, plus a separate residences complex for short stays. More than 900 works of art – sculpture and painting alike – were woven into the interiors from the construction stage onwards. The resort is known for Auriga Spa and its moon-cycle treatments, Cassia’s Cantonese cooking, a cocktail bar inside the heritage building and its Culturists, a team that introduces guests to Singapore’s history and culture. For events there is a circular, pillarless ballroom crowned by a glass dome.

Location

The resort is on Sentosa Island, just over 10 minutes by car from central Singapore and 26 km from Changi Airport; the hotel’s Culturist team arranges airport transfers. A private trail leads from the grounds to Palawan Beach, and a shuttle runs to the VivoCity shopping centre on the main island.

Spa

Auriga Spa takes its name from the constellation whose brightest star is Capella, and its approach follows the lunar cycle, with signature treatments matched to the energy of each phase. More than 1,114 m² hold nine treatment suites with private gardens, four of them for couples, separate men’s and women’s areas with a vitality pool, herbal steam room, ice fountain and experience showers, and a relaxation lounge. Therapists use Dr. Levy, Margy’s Monte Carlo and Biologique Recherche; among the signatures is Senja Sunyi, a massage with warm moon stones, stretches and an argan oil and shea butter balm.

Sports & leisure

The 24-hour fitness centre on the first floor is equipped by Technogym, and three cascading outdoor pools sit among the gardens. The Culturists put together activities in the resort and beyond: cooking masterclasses, cocktail crafting, mahjong lessons with a master, art walks, traditional crafts and local food, yoga and sound baths. The Living Room hosts small daily cultural sessions and workshops with local craftspeople, and resident guests enter Sentosa, with its beaches, trails and attractions, free of charge.

For children

The Little Stars programme is designed for young guests: led by the Culturists, children discover stories of Sentosa and Singapore through craft and culture workshops, cooking sessions, scavenger hunts around the grounds and seasonal activities. Babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

The resort’s restaurants and bars move between Italian and Cantonese cooking, local dishes and cocktails, and private dining can be arranged at any of them.

  • Fiamma — Italian family cooking: antipasti, handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and a Sunday champagne brunch
  • Cassia — modern Cantonese cuisine, dim sum lunches and signature roasts, with a private room for up to 10 guests
  • The Pineapple Room — cocktail bar in the heritage building above the lobby, with signature drinks drawn from local flavours, bar snacks, spirits and cigars
  • Bob’s Bar — a bar in the greenery by the cascading pools with sunset views, a deep rum list and local dishes such as laksa, Hainanese chicken rice and bak kut teh
  • The Living Room — a lounge in a restored 1880s bungalow serving drinks, cakes and a daily afternoon tea for hotel guests
  • Chef’s Table — a home-style kitchen for private occasions

In-room dining runs around the clock.

Swimming

Three cascading outdoor pools lie among the resort’s tropical gardens; every villa has its own 3 × 3 m plunge pool and the manors have private pools. A private trail leads from the hotel to Palawan Beach on the Sentosa shore, where dogs are welcome too.

Pets

One pet of up to 15 kg is accepted per room, with a bed, bowls and treats provided. Pets may not be left alone in the room; they are welcome in the gardens, on the paths and at the outdoor tables of Fiamma, Cassia and Bob’s Bar, but not in indoor dining areas, The Living Room, The Pineapple Room, the spa, the pools or the villa plunge pools. Dog-friendly Palawan Beach is close by.

Rooms

The 113 rooms, suites, villas and manors are spread over 30 acres of tropical gardens: calm rooms and suites with balconies in the main building, 38 villas with plunge pools and standalone manors with a personal butler. The Club Residences add one- to three-bedroom apartments with kitchens for short stays, with full use of the hotel’s services.
