Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island

About this hotel

General information

Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island has an entire island to itself in the Seychelles Outer Islands: one island, one resort. Platte is a flat coral island of roughly 0.58 km², barely raised above the ocean, covered in tropical greenery and ringed by 3.5 km of shoreline where hawksbill and green turtles come ashore to nest. White terns, red-tailed tropicbirds and frigatebirds are among the birds seen here, and a family of giant Aldabra tortoises lives on the island.

There are just 50 villas of one to five bedrooms, each with its own pool and garden. The resort has six restaurants and bars, the Waldorf Astoria Spa, a dive centre and the Discovery Centre, which explains the seagrass meadows around the island and the work to protect its turtles. Every guest is looked after by a personal concierge from arrival. There is no mobile signal on the island, but free Wi-Fi covers the whole resort and every villa has a landline. Weddings and private events can also be arranged.

Location

Platte Island lies in the Indian Ocean about 130 km south of Mahé and can only be reached by air: the flight from Seychelles International Airport to the island's own airstrip takes around 25 minutes, and private charters can be arranged on request. Before departure guests wait in the Waldorf Astoria Lounge above the domestic terminal check-in.

Spa

The Waldorf Astoria Spa has six treatment suites, a beauty salon, a hammam, a sauna and steam room, a hydro pool, an infinity pool and a quiet outdoor garden for meditation. The menu covers facials, massages, scrubs, wraps and rituals, including Moroccan hammam ceremonies, with products by 111SKIN and VOYA.

Sports & leisure

Activities on and around the island include:

  • a PADI 5★ dive centre with a 3.5 m training pool, courses and guided dives
  • guided snorkelling in the lagoon or on the outer reef
  • kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, with private guided outings
  • half- and full-day catamaran trips and sunset cruises
  • tennis courts, a fitness centre, daily yoga and wellness classes
  • sunrise wildlife walks and private tours of the Discovery Centre
  • food and drink masterclasses: fermenting at Moulin, mixology, wine tastings and Creole cooking
  • private experiences such as stargazing on the airstrip, a wine tasting in the sea and outdoor cinema in the villa garden
For children

Turtle Bay Kids Club welcomes children aged 4–12 with a daily themed programme of treasure hunts, bingo, mask and puppet making and other crafts. Private sessions can be booked on top: swimming and snorkelling lessons, pizza, cake and cookie making, and a mocktail masterclass. There is a playground, and babysitting is available with advance notice.

Restaurants & bars

The island has six restaurants and bars; in-villa dining runs around the clock, and floating breakfasts, beach picnics and villa barbecues can be arranged.

  • La Perle — poolside restaurant with Northern Mediterranean and Asian cooking; seafood and the catch of the day in the evening
  • Maison des Epices — Creole and Latin American cuisine cooked over an open fire, with house-made spice blends
  • Moulin — seasonal menu built on local produce, set within its own vegetable and herb garden
  • Lalin — champagne bar with ocean views and inventive cocktails from sunset into the night
  • Torti — daytime poolside bar serving light Asian-inspired lunches
  • Peacock Terrace — coffee roasted on the island, teas and infusions
  • Maison des Epices Bar — a collection of rums, tequilas and mezcals
  • Champagne Rock — a beach bar set among natural rocks
Swimming

The island is fringed by 3.5 km of shoreline and beaches, and most villas open from their gardens straight onto the sand. Besides each villa's private pool there is an outdoor pool at La Perle, and the spa has a hydro pool and an infinity pool. Snorkelling equipment is provided in every villa.

Pets

Pets are not allowed; service animals are the only exception.
