About this hotel
General information
North Island occupies an island of the same name, a secluded speck of land in emerald water where rare birds, turtles and fish thrive and terminalia, takamaka and coco de mer trees grow. There are just 11 villas, thatched and built in traditional Seychellois style among coconut palms and tropical greenery beside a white beach. Each is finished differently, in rare local wood and stone, woven furniture and pieces by Seychellois and African craftspeople.
There is no set menu: the chef cooks to each guest’s taste, and meals can be served in the ocean-view dining room, on the beach, by the pool or in the villa. The island has a spa, a 45-metre pool, a gym, a dive centre and an activity centre, a library and a boutique, with water sports, sea cruises and trips to neighbouring islands.
Location
North Island lies 32 km north-west of Mahé, about 12 minutes by helicopter from Mahé’s airport.
Spa
The spa focuses on restoration, rejuvenation and relaxation, with a range of massages, aromatherapy, wraps, peels and beauty treatments. Some treatments can be enjoyed in the villa.
Sports & leisure
The island has a 45-metre open-air panoramic pool and a gym. The activity and dive centres arrange water sports, sea cruises and excursions to neighbouring islands, and water sports and diving equipment is available to hire.
Restaurants & bars
Piazza on East Beach is a relaxed open-air restaurant serving Creole cooking with a European touch. On the west beach, Sunset Bar is the place for a cocktail as the sun goes down.
Swimming
The island has four white-sand beaches.
Rooms
The eleven villas stand among coconut palms and lush tropical greenery near a secluded white beach.
Villas have air conditioning, a ceiling fan, satellite TV, internet access and a CD/DVD player.
Beachfront Villa
One of ten handcrafted villas raised a metre off the ground to catch the sea breeze, with a bedroom, dressing room, a bathroom with marble bath and two showers (one outdoors), a kitchen, living and dining areas and a deep plunge pool. A further room works as a study, cinema or second bedroom for children under 19, and the villa looks over the east beach towards the sunrise.
Villa North Island
Set on the island’s northern slope, part-hidden among takamaka trees, with beach views from every corner and a bridge of casuarina trunks leading to the bedroom. The bathroom, with a 1.2 × 2 m bath, looks out to Praslin and La Digue, and a carved staircase climbs to a sun terrace with a rain shower and an open-air spa area.
