About this hotel
General information
Square Nine is a seven-storey boutique hotel on Studentski trg, in Belgrade’s historic centre. Its restrained, Bauhaus-inspired façade brings a modern line to the block while sitting easily beside its Secessionist neighbours. Inside, the lobby pairs a polished limestone floor with a library, an art collection and fresh flowers, and original mid-century pieces by American and Scandinavian designers run through the whole building – in the rooms, in the seating areas by the lifts on every floor and, most of all, in the lobby lounge.
There are 45 rooms and suites, looked after by two members of staff per room. Service is attentive and quiet: packing and unpacking, hand washing and dry cleaning, flowers in the room and round-the-clock room service. A Japanese restaurant with a wraparound terrace occupies the rooftop, Beefbar opens onto the garden courtyard, and the spa is built around an 18-metre lap pool.
Location
The hotel faces Studentski trg and its small park, looking out over Dorćol, one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. Knez Mihailova, the main pedestrian street, is a short walk away, as is Belgrade Fortress in Kalemegdan Park above the confluence of the Sava and the Danube. Belgrade International Airport is about 16 km away; transfers are arranged on request by chauffeur-driven car (Mercedes Viano or Range Rover).
Spa
The naturally lit spa holds an 18-metre lap pool, a Japanese ofuro tub, a sauna and a steam room, alongside a Technogym fitness centre. Two treatment rooms offer massages, facials, body wraps and scrubs. The spa works with Augustinus Bader, offering the brand’s AB The Method treatments, and its spa boutique stocks the full range of Augustinus Bader skincare.
Sports & leisure
Exercise centres on the 18-metre lap pool and the Technogym fitness centre, with personal trainers available on request. The concierge helps plan sightseeing in the city, recommends bars, restaurants and boutiques, and books chauffeured cars. For business there is a 14-seat conference room around a rosewood boardroom table and a small business centre; the hotel also hosts weddings and private celebrations.
Restaurants & bars
Three venues run from the lobby to the roof; breakfast is served à la carte and room service runs around the clock:
- Beefbar – the Monte-Carlo restaurant brand, built around prime meats sourced worldwide, international street food and its signature dishes, opening onto a quiet garden terrace in the courtyard
- Ebisu – rooftop Japanese restaurant and bar with a wraparound terrace over the historic centre: teppanyaki, ramen, soft-shell crab, aburi sushi and fresh fish delivered twice a week, with sake, Japanese beer and whisky and sake-based cocktails at the bar
- The Lobby Bar – overlooking the lounge, with wines, spirits, cocktails, champagne and coffee, plus salads, sandwiches and signature burgers, from morning coffee to after-dinner drinks
Swimming
The 18-metre lap pool sits in the spa, lit by daylight, its water lightly saline at 0.5%.
