About this hotel
General information
The resort occupies the most secluded, eastern tip of Shura Island, with the sea on three sides, sand dunes rolling between the buildings and a sandbank reaching far out into a turquoise lagoon. The layout is low and spacious, spread over 4.8 hectares: single-storey pavilions are gathered in small clusters modelled on the encampments of old desert trade caravans. Outdoor firepits and shared courtyards carry the feel of a Hijazi camp, and interiors pair warm wood and stone with colourful, richly patterned textiles.
There are 149 rooms and suites, each with glass walls that slide away so guests can walk barefoot onto the sand. The resort has several restaurants and lounges, three pools, a spa with a hammam, a kids’ club, a teen centre and a marine discovery centre. The sea sets the rhythm — snorkelling and diving on the coral reef, paddles and boards along the shore — while on land there are cliffs to climb, ziplines and an island golf course.
Location
The resort sits at the eastern end of Shura Island off Saudi Arabia’s west coast, between Umluj and Al Wajh, in the Red Sea resort region that runs for 200 km and takes in an archipelago of some 90 islands. A 1.2 km bridge links the island to the mainland, so no seaplane or boat is needed: Red Sea International Airport is 22 km away, about 25 minutes by car, and the concierge arranges arrival and departure transfers in the resort’s fleet of electric cars.
Spa
The Spa is built around four elements of the coast — water, salt, coral and plants. It has eight treatment rooms, two of them open-air pavilions in the gardens, a stone-clad hammam with a cool chamber, a heated hydrotherapy pool with massage jets, an ice cave, experience showers, outdoor relaxation lounges and its own lap pool. The 90-minute Red Sea Rejuvenation combines pressure-point work with flowing aromatic massage of the back, neck, shoulders and head, ending with a warm compress of Arabic herbs. The menu also includes the Hammam Botanical Experience with a peppermint cleanse, black soap and kessa-glove exfoliation, the Shura Serenity and Deep Renewal Therapy massages — the latter with Thai-style stretches — the side-by-side Couple’s Escape, and facials.
Sports & leisure
The 24-hour Fitness Centre has Life Fitness equipment and floor-to-ceiling windows, and personal trainers tailor routines on request. On the water there is paddle-boarding, kayaking along the shore, e-foiling, Seabob underwater scooters, and guided snorkelling and diving on the coral reef, including night dives and training courses; the cooler months from October to May are the best time to dive. The Marine Discovery Centre introduces the reef and its marine life.
On land there is archery, e-biking, a via ferrata, abseiling, introductory climbing, a zipline over the valleys and stargazing. Guests enjoy privileged access to Shura Links, an 18-hole, par-72 course that winds through mangroves and dunes along the shoreline, with a putting green of almost a hectare, lessons with teaching professionals and The Clubhouse for lunch after a round.
For children
The complimentary Kids For All Seasons programme has children exploring the island’s natural surroundings, teenagers have their own Teen Centre, and at the Marine Discovery Centre young guests learn about the coral reef and its inhabitants through hands-on activities. There is also a dedicated family pool.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and lounges range across Italian, Mediterranean, Levantine and plant-forward cooking:
- Sea Green — plant-forward and international cooking, with a breakfast buffet of freshly baked bread and Arabic coffee
- Al Forn — a Levantine restaurant serving traditional Lebanese and Syrian dishes, named after the ovens at the heart of its kitchen
- Spiaggia Restaurant & Pool — relaxed Italian dining outdoors, steps from the beach and the pools
- Spiaggia Beach Bar — a bar right on the sand with light dishes from the Italian coast and refreshing drinks
- Lobby Lounge — mezze, sandwiches and a pastry trolley; calm by day, livelier in the evening
- In-Room Dining — around the clock
A private five-course Italian dinner can be set up on the beach, and private cooking classes are offered.
Swimming
Beach wraps around the resort on three sides — more than 1.3 km of swimmable sand — and at low tide a long sandbank appears that leads far out into the lagoon. There are three outdoor pools: one for families, one for adults only and a lap pool at The Spa. Cabanas and larger super cabanas line the pools, with staff bringing towels, drinks and cool treats. The Presidential Suite has a plunge pool of its own on the sand.
