General information
Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort spreads across more than 100 acres of tropical rainforest in the valley between Gros Piton and Petit Piton, at the heart of the Pitons Management Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cottages, villas and residences climb the slope from the white sand of Anse des Pitons into the green of the mountains, and their interiors nod to the estate’s plantation past: tall beamed ceilings, four-poster beds and rooms that open straight onto terraces. Every stay comes with its own pool and a personal butler.
The resort is also known for the contemporary art placed across the grounds, with works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Banksy, Jeff Koons and KAWS, and an audio tour by QR code that tells the stories behind them. The rest of the day is shaped by landscape and sea: a spa set in the rainforest canopy, an on-site dive centre at the foot of Petit Piton, a racquet club and nine restaurants, bars and a chocolate boutique, from dinner facing the Pitons to burgers on the jetty.
Location
The resort lies on the south-west coast of Saint Lucia in Val des Pitons near Soufrière, between the two Pitons above the Caribbean Sea. Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) near Vieux Fort is about 29 km away, roughly 45 minutes by car; George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) in Castries is about 49 km away, around 1 hour 20 minutes by road. The concierge arranges private transfers, and an airport meet-and-greet with fast-track formalities or VIP handling at the private Trident Suite terminal can be booked.
Spa
The Rainforest Spa sits beneath Petit Piton, with treatment rooms in treehouses raised into the rainforest canopy and a stream running below. Treatments draw on the island’s volcanic minerals, local cacao and tropical botanicals: sulphur-mud wraps, coconut-milk, warm bamboo and Himalayan salt-stone massages, and couples’ rituals with a cocoa-butter massage. Facials and body treatments use Augustinus Bader and Tata Harper, alongside CACI non-surgical treatments. There is a Temazcal steam dome with a pail shower, a hair salon and barber, and manicures and pedicures. Teenagers aged 13–17 have their own menu; children under 13 are not admitted to the spa.
Sports & leisure
- Sugar Beach Racquet Club: one tennis court, one padel court and two pickleball courts, plus a lounge with a boutique and a Hyperice recovery corner; courts are free for guests, with coaching for adults and children
- Fitness centre and yoga studio right on the beach, with Technogym, Peloton and Omnia equipment, group classes, personal training and private yoga; a sauna (adults only) and ice baths on the fitness deck
- Full PADI dive facility at the north end of the beach below Petit Piton: Discover Scuba Diving, certification courses and two-tank boat dives; the Sugar Beach Reef house reef is reached from the shore, other sites lie 5–20 minutes away, among them Superman’s Flight, Piton Wall, Keyhole Pinnacles, Turtle Reef, Anse Chastanet Reef, Fairyland and the Lesleen M wreck
- Free non-motorised equipment: kayaks, paddleboards, Hobie Cat and beach snorkelling; at extra cost, a glass-bottomed kayak, water-skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, tubing, Hobie Cat lessons and snorkel boat trips
- Speedboat tours, sunset cruises, fishing with a feast of the catch, beach barbecues, chocolate-making sessions, rum-and-chocolate tastings and cocktail masterclasses
- An audio tour of the art collection, coral and fruit-tree planting with the resort team; the Piton trails, Soufrière’s volcano, waterfalls and rainforest are close by
For children
The resort is geared to families. The V Team Kids Club runs the Sugar Club for children aged 4–11 every day: treasure hunts, crafts, painting, cookie decorating, beach and lawn games, fish feeding and nature walks around the grounds. Tweens and teens have the Spice Club, with table tennis, croquet, billiards, pinball and video games, as well as kayaking, paddleboarding and tennis. Children under four are welcome with an adult. Babysitting is available at extra cost with advance booking, and CYBEX strollers, high chairs and bouncers can be requested. The Superior Luxury Villa and Grand Luxury Villa have a living room with a sofa bed for children.
Restaurants & bars
The resort is not all-inclusive: guests choose where to eat, with an option of daily meals and select drinks for those who prefer it. The venues:
- Saltwood — the signature dining room in the main house, overlooking the Pitons and the beach: steaks, seafood, Old and New World wines
- Saltwood Bar — an open-air lounge bar beside Saltwood for bar bites, pre-dinner canapés and the sunset
- Bonté Restaurant & Bar — day-to-night beachfront dining on the deck or barefoot on the sand, with live entertainment every evening
- The Terrace Restaurant — breakfast with views of the Pitons and the sea
- Jalousie Grill — a relaxed beachside grill open all day
- The Cane Bar — South-East Asian small plates for sharing
- Boopa’s — quick bites, healthy fare and sweet treats
- Jetty Burgers — burgers off the grill at the South Pier bar
- Cocoa Mill — a chocolate boutique selling the resort’s own chocolate, with rum-and-chocolate tastings
Meals are also served in-room, on the beach, by the pool and in the cabanas, and private dinners can be arranged for couples, families and groups.
Swimming
The resort sits on the white-sand beach of Anse des Pitons between the two Pitons, and the bungalows and beach houses open directly onto the sand. Food and drinks are served on the beach from a dedicated menu, and the beachside pool facing the Pitons, open from dawn to dusk, has shaded cabanas for up to six guests with direct beach access. The house reef lies just off the shore, so snorkelling starts from the beach. Every room also has its own pool — a plunge pool in the villas and cottages, an infinity-edge pool in the residences.
Pets
Well-behaved pets are welcome in select rooms, in the resort’s public areas (except bars and restaurants), by the pool and in the spa. The resort should be told in advance; under the VIPets @ Viceroy programme pets are welcomed by name and given a toy, with food and water bowls on request. The fee is waived for documented service animals.
Rooms
Accommodation ranges from cottages, Sugar Mill rooms, villas and beachfront bungalows to residences with kitchens, three four-bedroom beach houses and the nine-bedroom Spice of Life estate, all in plantation style. Each has its own pool and butler service.
Four-poster bed, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TV, Nespresso machine, minibar, tea and coffee, safe, bathroom with walk-in shower and Corpus amenities, bathrobes and slippers, an insulated water bottle, butler and turndown service, and shuttle rides around the resort.
Luxury Cottage
A plantation-style cottage with a high beamed ceiling, a king-size four-poster bed and a sitting area. The terrace has a plunge pool and views of the Pitons, the rainforest and the Caribbean Sea.
Deluxe Cottage
A cottage with a king-size four-poster bed, a walk-in dressing room, a sofa bed and a Victorian-style claw-foot bath. Its terrace and plunge pool look out over the rainforest, the Pitons and the sea.
Luxury Sugar Mill Room
A centrally placed room with a king bed, contemporary Caribbean interiors in natural materials and handcrafted furniture, a generous bathroom with a freestanding bath and a living area. A private plunge pool lies just off the terrace, with views of Gros Piton and the tropical gardens.
Superior Luxury Sugar Mill Room
A centrally placed room with a king bed, a private rooftop terrace for watching the sunset, a private patio with a walled garden and a plunge pool. Views of Gros Piton and the tropical gardens.
Luxury Villa
A plantation-style villa with a king-size four-poster bed, a walk-in dressing room and a claw-foot bath. An oversized plunge pool and private patio face the rainforest, the Pitons and the sea.
Superior Luxury Villa
The Luxury Villa with a separate living room and sofa bed, suited to two young children or a third adult. Oversized plunge pool and private patio.
Grand Luxury Villa
A one-bedroom villa with a four-poster bed, an enclosed living room with a double sofa bed, a dressing room and a claw-foot bath. Oversized plunge pool and patio; it works for families with young children as well as couples.
Ocean View Grand Luxury Villa
A one-bedroom villa with open sea views, a living room with a double sofa bed, a dressing room, a second bathroom and a claw-foot bath. Oversized plunge pool and private patio.
Two Bedroom Grand Luxury Villa
Two villas joined by a private foyer, each with a four-poster primary bedroom, a living room with a sofa bed, a dressing room, a bathroom, its own plunge pool and patio. Views of Anse des Pitons or the Pitons.
Luxury Beachfront Bungalow
A bungalow set right on the sand with sea views, a four-poster bed and a freestanding bath. Outside is a shaded private area with loungers, a table and a plunge pool.
Two Bedroom Luxury Beachfront Bungalow
A beachfront bungalow connected to a beachfront room, with two four-poster bedrooms, concrete floors, beamed ceilings, thatched roofs and whitewashed adobe walls. Plunge pool, dressing room, walk-in shower and freestanding bath, plus a thatched shade by the sea with two loungers.
One Bedroom Residence
A tropical villa home with a full kitchen, a living room with a sofa bed, washer and dryer, two bathrooms, an infinity-edge pool, sun terraces and a walled garden. Available as Beach or Ocean View.

Spice of Life
A private nine-bedroom estate with 13 bathrooms for up to 18 guests (five- and seven-bedroom set-ups on request), with a large pool, beach access, contemporary art and floor-to-ceiling views of the Pitons. A 24-hour butler team, private chef, driver and return airport transfers are included.
