Ladera Resort

About this hotel

General information

Ladera Resort runs along a ridge some 300 m above the Caribbean Sea, between Gros Piton and Petit Piton, and is the only resort inside the Pitons Management Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its 37 suites and villas were built by hand from local wood, stone and tile, and each one leaves out a wall: in its place is an uninterrupted view of both peaks, the rainforest and the sea, with a private heated pool a few steps from the canopy bed.

This is a place for couples, open to adults aged 18 and over. The team is entirely Saint Lucian, carved furniture, mosaics and ceramics come from local craftsmen, and guests can tour the resort’s own carpentry workshop. Around seven hectares of grounds supply vegetables, fruit, spices and herbs to the Dasheene kitchen, and also hold the lévé wellness space with its volcanic mineral pool, nature trails and a four-storey treehouse in an old mango tree. The resort is Green Globe certified.

Location

Ladera sits on Rabot Estate outside Soufrière, in the south of Saint Lucia, on the ridge between the two Pitons. The Sulphur Springs are about five minutes away by car, and the Diamond Botanical Gardens and the Tet Paul Nature Trail are both within 15 minutes. Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) near Vieux Fort is about 45 minutes by car and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) outside Castries about 75 minutes; the resort arranges private car transfers from both airports on arrival and departure days.

Spa

lévé Wellness & Spa looks out over a rainforest valley; in Saint Lucian Kwéyòl, lévé means to awaken or rise. Treatments draw on traditional Saint Lucian healing and on the island itself — volcanic minerals, cacao, coconut oil, botanical infusions and herbs grown in the spa’s own Wellness Garden. Facilities include a steam room, infrared and Finnish saunas, the Volcanic Mineral Vitality Pool filled with warm mineral water, relaxation spaces, and nail and hair studios. Signature rituals include the Chanm Mouyé Hydro-Renewal Ritual and the Serenity Ritual, with Harmony for Two and the Rainforest Couples Experience for couples; massages can also be taken in the suite.

Sports & leisure

Days revolve around the Pitons, the rainforest and the sea, with some experiences on the estate and others across the island.

  • lévé Fitness — an air-conditioned gym facing the Pitons, an outdoor gym, a yoga and Pilates studio and a yoga platform; complimentary yoga, sunrise meditation, group classes and personal training
  • Walking — nature trails on the grounds, a guided hike along the Ladera ridge, the Gros Piton climb (also approached by sea) and the Tet Paul Nature Trail
  • On the estate — garden and carpentry-workshop tours, sessions at the Immersion Art Studio, rum-making and mixology classes, wine tastings, a library and a games lounge
  • Treehouse — four storeys in the branches of a mango tree more than 300 years old, for reading, chess, private film screenings and private dinners
  • At sea — sailing and snorkelling trips, a sail to Marigot Bay, sunset cruises, sport fishing, whale and dolphin watching, and scuba diving
  • Around the island — a rainforest canopy zipline, horse riding, ATV trails, bamboo rafting, Soufrière tours and the Gros Islet street party
For children

Ladera is for adults only; the minimum age is 18.

Restaurants & bars

Cooking is built on the resort’s own gardens and on local farmers and fishermen, and the executive chef, a native of Choiseul, reworks the island’s classics.

  • Dasheene Restaurant — the main restaurant on the ridge facing the Pitons: breakfast, lunch and dinner, farm-to-table cooking and modern takes on Saint Lucian dishes
  • The Wine Room — an intimate room at Dasheene lined with more than 2,000 bottles; the chef’s six-course tasting menu with paired wines, and private dinners for up to 14
  • T'cholit Lounge — cocktails and mocktails with a Saint Lucian accent, sunsets over the Pitons and local musicians in the evening
  • The Pool Terrace — light dishes, seafood and tropical cocktails at the edge of the infinity pool
  • The Hideaway Rum Bar — a candlelit cave bar for rum flights, cask-poured and rare bottles, with charcuterie, cheese, seafood platters and tapas
  • JAKO Wellness Café — above lévé, looking over the rainforest: nourishing breakfasts and lunches, smoothies and cold-pressed juices
Swimming

Beyond the heated private pool in every suite and villa, guests share two pools. The infinity pool at the Pool Terrace sits on the very edge of the ridge, 300 m above the sea, facing both Pitons and the rainforest. The lévé pool is filled with warm volcanic mineral water from the Soufrière springs and has a swim-up bar and a sun shelf with in-water loungers; spa guests use it free of charge. In a secluded corner, hot tubs made from old sugar-mill pots are fed by the resort’s own volcanic mineral spring. A resort shuttle runs to Malgretoute Beach, and beach and pool towels are provided.

Pets

Pets are not accepted, as the layout of the suites does not allow for them.

There are 37 suites and villas and no two are alike: local wood, stone and tile, hand-carved details and ceramics, a heated private pool and an open wall onto the Pitons. Only Villa La Fleur and La Petite Fleur have air conditioning; a minimum stay applies over the Christmas and winter season.
