Jade Mountain

About this hotel

General information

Jade Mountain rises above the 600-acre beachfront estate of Anse Chastanet near Soufrière, facing the Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built of rough stone and concrete, with tall stone columns, it seems to grow out of the hillside, and each of its 29 sanctuaries is reached by its own bridge. In every one the fourth wall is left out entirely, so the bedroom, the living area and, in 24 of them, a private infinity pool open straight onto the sea and the mountains while remaining fully private.

The resort is deliberately free of televisions, radios and conventional telephones, and round-the-clock service comes from personal butlers known as major domos. Guests share everything at the neighbouring Anse Chastanet: two beaches, restaurants, the dive centre and the estate trails. Breakfast and dinner, full board or an all-inclusive plan can be added to the room rate; from 20 December to 2 January breakfast and dinner are compulsory. Beach loungers and towels, non-motorised water sports and daily guided estate walks are included. The minimum age is 16.

Location

Jade Mountain sits on the Anse Chastanet estate near Soufrière, in the south of Saint Lucia, above Anse Chastanet beach. Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is 29 km away, about 60 minutes by car, and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) 48 km, about 75 minutes; the resort books the taxi and its representative meets guests at Hewanorra. In daylight, helicopter transfers land at the resort's private helipad in the hills, a 5-minute drive away: roughly 6 minutes' flying from Hewanorra and 8 minutes from George F. L. Charles.

Spa

Kai en Ciel is a small spa on Jade Mountain's lower level, with two air-conditioned treatment rooms plus hair, manicure and pedicure stations. The menu runs from classic body and beauty treatments to Ayurvedic and holistic therapies, VOYA treatments and chocolate-based treatments, and massages can also be given in the sanctuary. Couples can book the Alchemy of Two, a soak in a hot tub with scented oils followed by a side-by-side massage. Guests may also use Kai Belté on Anse Chastanet beach, with five air-conditioned treatment rooms, a hair and nail salon and the open-air Kai Mer cabana above the reef.

Sports & leisure

Below Kai en Ciel is an air-conditioned fitness studio with Cybex and Life Fitness equipment; yoga is held on the Celestial Terrace every morning from Sunday to Friday, with sunrise and sunset classes in the beach gazebo at Anse Chastanet and private sessions on request. Most activities are based on the Anse Chastanet estate:

  • Scuba St. Lucia, a PADI 5 Star dive resort on Anse Chastanet beach: the Anse Chastanet reef begins 15 m from the shore in 6–43 m of water, with shore and boat dives, night dives twice a week and training courses
  • complimentary non-motorised water sports: snorkelling, sit-on-top kayaks, paddleboards, Hobie Cats, Sunfish sailing and windsurfing; a tennis court
  • Bike St. Lucia, with 50 Cannondale mountain bikes and more than 19 km of hiking and biking trails through the estate's jungle
  • coastal trips in Prijon kayaks with Kayak St Lucia, day and sunset sails on the resort yachts and a jazz sunset cruise on the 18-metre catamaran Miss Babsie
  • daily guided estate walks, guided climbs of Gros Piton and trips to the rainforest, the botanical gardens and the Sulphur Springs
  • the Chocolate Lab, the Emerald Farm and tree-to-bar tours, cooking classes, rum tasting and mixology, a Creole history class and open-air art classes twice a week
For children

Jade Mountain does not accept children under 16 and offers no kids' club or family facilities.

Restaurants & bars

Jade Mountain's own venues are complemented by the restaurants of Anse Chastanet directly below, reached on foot or by resort shuttle; guests on a meal plan can dine at any of them.

  • Jade Mountain Club — for resident guests only, set around a colourful infinity pool: the tropical fusion "Jade Cuisine" on seasonal menus, served at breakfast, lunch and dinner, with live jazz or classical guitar on selected evenings
  • Celestial Terrace — a terrace above the club for sunset cocktails and stargazing
  • Chocolate Lab — tastings and truffle- and bar-making classes using the estate's own cocoa
  • in-sanctuary dining at any hour, private dinners on Anse Chastanet beach and the Castaway Dinner on Anse Mamin beach
  • at Anse Chastanet: Treehouse Restaurant for breakfast and modern Caribbean dinners; Emeralds, a vegetarian and vegan dinner menu in the Piti Piton Lounge; Trou au Diable for Creole-accented lunches and the Apsara menu of Saint Lucian–East Indian dishes from the tandoor at night; Jungle Bar and Grill for lunch on Anse Mamin beach; the Beach Bar and the Piton Bar
Swimming

Twenty-four sanctuaries have their own infinity pools, each lined in hand-made glass tiles in its own colour scheme and lit at night by fibre optics. The estate's two beaches, Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin, are a five-minute walk downhill or a shuttle ride away, and a resort boat runs between them. Anse Chastanet beach has loungers and towels for guests, and its coral reef, good for snorkelling, starts just off the shore.

There are 29 sanctuaries set on different levels: 24 with infinity pools in four categories defined by the size of the room and the pool, and five Sky suites without a pool.
