About this hotel
General information
Cap Maison is a small resort on the cliffs above Smugglers Cove at Cap Estate, on the northern tip of Saint Lucia. Its whitewashed buildings, balustrades and central Spanish Courtyard give it the feel of a hacienda, set within four acres of tropical gardens. There are 49 rooms, suites and villas, a secluded sandy beach of its own and two pools, and the hotel is a member of Relais & Châteaux.
Food and wine are what bring guests back. The Cliff at Cap sits above the sea and marries Caribbean produce with French technique, The Naked Fisherman grills on the sand, Cellar Maison holds some 2,000 bottles, and the resort ages its own rum in a solera. Its best-known table is Rock Maison, a wooden deck at the water’s edge where champagne arrives by zip line. Solar panels, grey-water recycling for the gardens, rainwater collection and local sourcing are part of everyday operations.
Location
The resort is on Smugglers Cove Drive in Cap Estate, at the northern edge of Gros Islet: Rodney Bay, with its restaurants, shops and beaches, is a 5-minute drive, and the fishing village of Gros Islet and Pigeon Island National Park are close by. From George F. L. Charles Airport in Castries the transfer by car takes about 20 minutes. From Hewanorra International Airport in the south, guests either drive or take a helicopter to the northern airport (about 10 minutes) followed by a 20-minute drive; a private speedboat transfer also runs to the dock at Vieux Fort, 6 minutes by taxi from Hewanorra.
Spa
Spa Maison uses Sothys products from Paris for massages, exfoliation rituals and facials for women and men. After a treatment guests can linger on the spa terrace with a tisane among the trees and birdlife. For a small supplement massages can be given in the room, on a private terrace, on Rock Maison or in a garden gazebo.
Sports & leisure
Most activity revolves around the sea and the wild trails of the Atlantic coast.
- Complimentary non-motorised water sports — kayaks, Hobie Cat sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and snorkelling on the house reef, where turtles are sometimes seen; lessons at extra cost
- Cap Maison Hiking & Running Club — guided hikes and trail runs along the clifftops and empty beaches of the Atlantic coast, with water and towels provided
- A gym in the main house next to the spa, with cardio machines, a Peloton bike, free weights, resistance machines and TRX; group and private yoga, including in the villas (on request, 24 hours’ notice)
- Golf — an 18-hole course running from the Atlantic to the Caribbean coast, a few minutes from the resort gates
- On request — horse riding, fishing, diving, waterskiing and island tours, including trips to the Pitons
- Cooking classes for couples with the executive chef, wine tastings in the cellar and live music on the clifftops on selected evenings
For children
There is no kids’ club, but families are well looked after: babysitting, cots and high chairs, a children’s menu and early dinners, children’s activities, connecting rooms and multi-bedroom villas are all available. The Spanish Courtyard Suites suit parents of young children, who can watch the courtyard pool from their balcony. Suites and villas with a roof terrace are not suitable for children aged 7 and under.
