About this hotel
General information
Anse Chastanet Resort occupies a private estate of roughly 600 acres on the south-west coast of Saint Lucia, close to Soufrière. The land runs across two valleys down to two soft-sand beaches, Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin, and its slopes look out to Gros Piton and Petit Piton, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both bays sit inside a marine reserve, with coral reef starting a few metres from the sand. The resort takes an eco-minded line: vegetables, herbs, fruit and cacao for its kitchens come from its own organic farm in the hills above Soufrière.
Each of the 49 rooms is individually designed; most climb a flowering hillside, while twelve sit in a tropical garden at beach level. Some have no fourth wall at all and open straight onto the mountains and sea, and the furniture is handmade from island timbers. The resort is best known for diving from its own beach dive centre, for private biking and walking trails through the old French plantation of Anse Mamin. Some 100 steps separate the beach from the mid-hillside, and a complimentary shuttle runs whenever guests ask. Its sister hotel, Jade Mountain, stands on the same estate.
Location
The resort lies on the island’s south-west Caribbean coast near the small town of Soufrière, within easy reach of the Sulphur Springs, the waterfall, botanical gardens and Louis XVI mineral baths, the rainforest and the Pitons. Hewanorra International Airport is about 29 km away, roughly 60 minutes by car; George F. L. Charles Airport is about 48 km, roughly 75 minutes. A resort representative meets guests at either airport and car transfers are arranged by the hotel. Helicopter transfers land at the resort’s own helipad in the hills behind it, about 6 minutes’ flight from Hewanorra and 8 minutes from George F. L. Charles, then a 5-minute drive; flights operate in daylight only.
Spa
Kai Belté Spa, Creole for “house of beauty”, sits at beach level between the beach restaurant and the dive centre, with five air-conditioned treatment rooms and an open-air hair and nail salon. Higher up, Kai Mer is an open-air cabana above the Anse Chastanet reef used for Swedish and deep-tissue massage, aromatherapy, shiatsu, foot reflexology and Thai foot massage. Products draw on ingredients from the resort’s own farm alongside Aromatherapy Associates and the Ayurvedic Tara range, and the therapists are trained in Ayurveda. There are chocolate treatments made with estate cacao, in-room treatments, daily morning and evening yoga in the beach gazebo and a short consultation with the wellness practitioner.
