About this hotel
General information
Eden Rock – St Barths sits on a rocky promontory above St Jean Bay, flanked by white sand and a coral reef. It is the island’s first hotel: guests have stayed here since the 1950s, when its founder, a French aviator and adventurer, landed his small plane on a grass strip by St-Jean and made the rock his home. The place soon became a discreet retreat for well-heeled travellers from America and Europe, and that mood of understated glamour has never quite left.
Today there are 37 rooms, suites and villas — on the rock, along the beach and in the gardens — and no two are alike. Interiors are rich in wood, books and art: the E Rock Art Collection runs to some 400 pieces, many by artists from the New York Academy of Art alongside local and European names. Jean-Georges Vongerichten oversees the food, and there is a spa with a medical wing, a boutique and a coral-restoration project that guests can join. The hotel suits couples as easily as families with children of any age; the dress code is casual chic.
Location
The hotel is in the very centre of Saint-Barthélemy, on St Jean Bay; the shops, bars and restaurants of St-Jean village are a short walk away, and the boutiques of Gustavia and the beaches of Gouverneur and Grande Saline are close by. St Barth airport is a 5-minute drive, and every guest is met by a chauffeur at the airport or the harbour. The island is reached by small aircraft from nearby regional airports, including Princess Juliana on Saint-Martin, or by ferry from Saint-Martin; private charters are also possible.
Spa
Eden Spa & Wellbeing lies at the heart of the rock, with a lounge styled like a yacht cabin and three treatment rooms. Treatments are built around Ligne St Barth products made on the island; the signature Eden Flower massage works on the back, arms and head. Facials follow Dr. Barbara Sturm and HydraFacial protocols, body work includes the Renata França lymphatic-drainage method, and nails are by Idalmi St Barth. The intimate Boat Room hosts SeeMyCosmetics treatments for skin, scalp, brows and lashes. On the beach, the Sun Spa sets two massage tables beneath white drapes, and treatments can also be taken in-room. A separate medi-spa offers non-invasive technologies including CoolSculpting, EMSculpt NEO, EMFace, Exilis Ultra 360 and Lymphastim.
Sports & leisure
- Eden Fitness: a gym with a view, up-to-date equipment and electrostimulation training; personal coaching, Pilates, stretching, hip hop and modern jazz dance, aqua training, swimming lessons and martial arts
- Eden Wellness: daily group and private yoga on the sea-facing Yoga Deck, reiki, meditation, sound healing and a monthly full-moon ritual at dusk

- Paddle-boarding and snorkelling over the reef from the beach; Eden Reef, a BioRock coral-restoration programme that guests can take part in
- Yacht charters to explore hidden coves and catamaran trips around the island
- There is no shared pool: many suites and villas have their own pool or hot tub
For children
Children of all ages are welcome, though there is no dedicated kids’ club. Instead, the guest relations team arranges activities on request — bodyboarding and sandcastle building, swimming, surfing and tennis lessons, yoga, painting and even massages. Cots are available on request. Families are best placed in the Premium Suite - Fontaine, which has a separate cabin for children or teenagers, the Diamond suites and the Signature Suite - Howard Hughes for four, the two-level Heavenly Beach Houses and the villas.
Restaurants & bars
Jean-Georges Vongerichten shapes the concept and menus across the hotel’s venues.
- Sand Bar — the main restaurant, right on the beach above the bay: breakfast (buffet plus dishes cooked to order), lunch and dinner daily, relaxed by day and more refined by night, with a DJ
- Rémy Bar & Salon — a British-colonial bar named after the hotel’s founder, serving inventive cocktails and small plates through the day
- Rémy’s Club — an intimate evening lounge hidden behind red velvet curtains
- Beach Bar — cocktails and light bites on the beachside sundeck
- In-room dining and Eden to Go takeaway
Swimming
The hotel opens straight onto St Jean beach, one of the island’s best known, with white sand, clear water and a coral reef close by. The Beach Bar sundeck has ergonomic loungers and Wi-Fi, and the much-photographed Eden Rock raft floats just offshore. There is no shared pool; many suites and villas have their own pool or hot tub instead.
Pets
Small pets up to 7 kg are welcome for a daily supplement. They receive homemade treats and have their own menu, available at the Sand Bar or through room service.
