General information
LUX* Saint Gilles, part of LUX* Resorts & Hotels, sits right on L’Ermitage beach on Réunion’s west coast, facing a lagoon held calm by a coral reef. Its white-timbered, Creole-style villas, with shingled roofs and a palette of taupe and grey, are scattered through seven acres of tropical gardens planted with filao trees, bougainvillea, hibiscus and frangipani — there are even beehives on the grounds, harvested for honey.
The resort has 174 rooms and suites, four restaurants, a large swimming pool, a kids’ club and seven conference rooms for up to 180 people. Its kitchens source locally first, and the place works as an unhurried base between days in the mountains: the cirques of Cilaos, Salazie and Mafate and the Piton de la Fournaise volcano are all within reach, with sunsets over the lagoon to come back to.
Location
The hotel stands in the L’Ermitage district of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, on Réunion’s west coast, with direct access to the beach and lagoon. The concierge arranges island excursions, and car hire is available on site.
Spa
There is no spa building as such: massages are given in shaded kiosks among the filao trees near the beach and in a treatment room, all for a fee. A few times a week a yoga teacher holds classes at the hotel, on the beach at sunrise or sunset or on terraces overlooking the gardens.
Sports & leisure
Complimentary: snorkelling in the lagoon, a fully equipped fitness centre, beach volleyball, table tennis, pétanque and floodlit tennis courts, where staff can find a playing partner or arrange one-to-one coaching. For a fee: diving, boat trips, jet-skiing, catch-and-release big-game fishing, yoga, fitness classes, power plates and mountain bikes. Golf courses lie nearby.

For children
PLAY, the kids’ club, takes children aged 3–11 for games, activities and new friendships. It opens during French school holidays, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00, on reservation. The pool has a children’s area, and babysitting can be booked with 24 hours’ notice.
Restaurants & bars
Dining pairs French cooking with Creole flavours and local produce, and two of the restaurants face the lagoon.
- La Cuisine — the main restaurant: breakfast and dinner buffets of international and island dishes, Creole cooking and seafood, with local musicians playing
- Orangine — an evening à la carte restaurant overlooking the pool, with refined cooking and French and New World wines
- La Plage — the beach restaurant, serving Creole cuisine on a wooden deck above the lagoon at lunch and dinner
- Carry’s Bar — slow-cooked, wood-fired curries, from spicy sausage rougail to fresh fish curry
- Le Bar — the pool bar, with pizza, salads and light bites by day and cocktails late into the evening
- ICI — LUX*’s own ice-cream parlour, a striped shack on the beach serving artisanal ice cream and sorbets

Swimming
The hotel opens straight onto L’Ermitage beach and its calm lagoon, sheltered behind a coral barrier reef and part of a marine reserve. By the beach is a single large swimming pool of 1,100 m² with a children’s area; there is beach and pool service, and beach towels are provided.
Rooms
The 174 rooms and suites are set in white-washed Creole villas among the tropical gardens, with cool slate floors, soft lighting and carefully chosen fabrics and furniture, and terraces or balconies that open onto greenery.
Every room has individually controlled air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a telephone, minibar, tea and coffee facilities, daily drinking water, a safe, bathrobes and slippers, and a bathroom with a bathtub, hairdryer, toiletries and beach towels.
Superior Room
A ground-floor room with a furnished terrace onto the tropical gardens and frangipani trees, a king-size or twin beds, and a bath and shower. Sleeps two adults plus a child or a baby.
Deluxe Room
A first-floor room with a furnished balcony over the gardens, a king-size or twin beds and a bathroom with bath and shower. Sleeps two adults plus a teen, a child or a baby.
Junior Suite
A ground- or first-floor suite with a living corner, a terrace or balcony over the gardens and a bathroom with bathtub and separate shower; an espresso machine is included. For two adults plus a child or a baby.
Family Suite
The largest category: interconnecting ground-floor rooms with two bathrooms, a terrace onto the tropical gardens and king-size or twin beds. Sleeps four adults and two teens, or two adults and four teens or children.
