About this hotel
General information
The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort sits on the Gulf shore within Katara Cultural Village in Doha. It was conceived as a modern-day palace, its architecture and interiors drawing on two great empires, the Mughal and the Ottoman. Arrival is through a broad Mughal-inspired courtyard framed by slender colonnades, and an art collection rooted in the same heritage runs through the halls and galleries.
There are 91 keys: 54 rooms, 5 suites and 32 villas, each villa with its own garden and pool. Most rooms look out over the sea, the private sandy beach or the courtyard garden. The resort has a 60-metre pool, a separate family pool, a spa with hammams, a kids’ club and five restaurants and lounges, among them La Marsa at the end of a long jetty over the water. A board room, a meeting room and private dining spaces host meetings, weddings and celebrations.
Location
The resort occupies a stretch of coast in Katara Cultural Village, a 100-hectare district of theatres, galleries, mosques, a 5,000-seat amphitheatre and the Al Thuraya Planetarium; the name Katara appeared on maps of the peninsula centuries before the district took shape. Katara Metro Station is a 10-minute walk away, with easy links to Souq Waqif, the National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art and The Pearl. Hamad International Airport is 23.7 km away, about 30 minutes by car; the hotel arranges an airport meet-and-greet and private chauffeur-driven transfers.
Spa
The Spa, on the lobby level, follows Eastern philosophy and Asian-inspired rituals, with beauty treatments built on holistic principles such as aromatherapy, Ayurveda and herbalism. The men’s side has two treatment rooms and a traditional hammam; the women’s side has two treatment rooms and two hammams. Between them, reached from both sides, sits the couples’ room. Every treatment room has its own bathtub and changing area.
Sports & leisure
Above the spa, an air-conditioned gym with up-to-date equipment is reserved for hotel guests. Other options include:
- The Chedi Pool, 60 metres long and 12 metres wide, lined with cabanas and sun beds and kept at 28–30 °C all year
- water sports from the private beach, with jogging and cycling paths close by
- private yacht outings on the Gulf, visits to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and stargazing at the Al Thuraya Planetarium, all arranged by the concierge
- chauffeur-driven cars for the city and off-road vehicles for trips into the desert, to the dunes and the camels
- Doha Golf Club and the 24 courts of the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex ten minutes away; further afield, kitesurfing at Fuwairit Beach, kayaking through the mangroves of Al Thakhira, jeep safaris into the dunes with lunch at a Bedouin camp, and the Inland Sea at Khor Al Adaid with its flamingos, ospreys and terns
For children
The Junior Explorers Club welcomes children aged 4–12 every day. Under trained staff, they make crafts, listen to stories, sing and dance, run science and nature experiments, go on treasure hunts, play language games and watch children’s films, with reading corners for quieter moments. Parents stay on the property and remain reachable while their children are at the club. Families also have a 35-metre family pool, and the suites and villas are set up for stays with children.
Restaurants & bars
Five venues cover the day, from all-day dining to a cigar salon:
- The Restaurant — all-day dining by the pool with sea views, an open-air patio and an indoor room beneath coffered ceilings; four display kitchens serve Arabic, Indian, Japanese and Thai dishes alongside Western classics, and a separate lounge hosts private gatherings
- The Beach Restaurant — a relaxed beachfront room opening onto a deck above the family pool, with modern European cooking, fresh seafood from the Josper grill, creative mocktails and shisha from noon until late
- La Marsa — an overwater restaurant at the end of a long jetty, pairing Mediterranean flavours and Middle Eastern classics with views of the Doha skyline and The Pearl; eight private bungalows and shisha
- The Lobby Lounge — a gallery-like lounge under a ten-metre ceiling, hung with Mughal- and Ottoman-influenced art and facing the Gulf, for afternoon tea, pastries and sunset mocktails
- The Cigar Lounge — a retro salon beside the lobby with wood panelling, vintage art, leather club chairs, marquetry floors and a selection of imported cigars
Swimming
A private sandy beach lies between the hotel and the sea and serves as the base for water sports. Beside it is The Chedi Pool (60 × 12 m), with cabanas and sun beds for hotel guests only, and next to The Beach Restaurant a 35-metre family pool. The Beach rooms and suite open straight onto the pool and beach from their terraces, and every villa has its own pool.
