Mandarin Oriental, Doha

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental, Doha is an intimate city hotel at the heart of Msheireb Downtown, where the old streets of Doha have been rebuilt as the capital’s cultural and social centre. It has 117 rooms, 41 suites and 91 serviced apartments with their own kitchens, while residences and villas beside Barahat Msheireb square cater for longer and family stays.

Interiors pair contemporary design with Qatari heritage: carved woodwork, hand-laid mosaics, arabesque tiles, ‘danshal’ beams, latticework and motifs drawn from desert dunes. The hotel runs nine restaurants, cafés and bars, a 3,000 m² spa and a rooftop pool deck with city views. For receptions and weddings there is a ballroom for up to 400 guests, a dedicated bridal room and seven further function rooms.

Location

The hotel stands on Barahat Msheireb Street in central Doha: the Msheireb Museums are a 5-minute walk, Souq Waqif and Al Koot Fort about 10 minutes, and the Corniche 15–20 minutes on foot. The Museum of Islamic Art is a 5–7-minute drive, the National Museum of Qatar 10 minutes, Katara Cultural Village 15–20 minutes and The Pearl 20–25 minutes. Hamad International Airport is roughly 20–25 minutes by car; the concierge arranges private transfers on request, and valet parking runs around the clock.

Spa

The Spa covers 3,000 m² and draws on the ancient Eastern idea of balancing the five elements, offering Mandarin Oriental signature therapies, massages, facials, body treatments, couples’ rituals and advanced skincare. There are six treatment rooms, a couples’ suite and two VIP suites, and before treatments guests use the steam room, sauna, indoor pool and experience shower, with separate facilities for men and women. The private Mandarin, Oriental and Jasmine suites each add their own sauna, steam room or rasul and a relaxation area, and the Mandarin Suite has a private lift; the spa shop stocks handmade local and regional products. Minimum age 18.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre is open 24 hours, with Technogym equipment, a functional training zone with a Funxtion digital trainer, a women-only gym, a private reformer Pilates studio for one or two, and yoga and TRX sessions; coaches are on hand daily, and personal or group sessions in kickboxing, Muay Thai and boot camp can be booked. Group aqua fitness in the rooftop pool is complimentary for hotel guests, and private swimming lessons are available on request. For runners, MIA Park, Al Bidda Park and the Corniche are close by, and the hotel provides a jogging map.

For children

Families can choose connecting rooms, multi-bedroom suites and apartments with kitchens, with rollaway beds and baby amenities provided. On request the team sets up in-room movie nights, a tipi tent with colouring books and Sandy the toy camel, or themed celebrations; Liang, Mosaic and IZU have children’s menus, and an all-day children’s menu is served in-room. The shallow rooftop leisure pool suits younger swimmers, and the concierge can arrange cupcake decorating, junior fitness sessions and trips to Quest indoor theme park and Meryal Waterpark.

Restaurants & bars

Nine restaurants, bars and cafés range from Cantonese cooking to Valrhona chocolate.

  • IZU — French-Mediterranean cuisine, with a terrace on Barahat Msheireb square and a more intimate room upstairs
  • Mosaic — nine open kitchens cooking dishes from along the Silk Route, from sushi and sashimi to Arabic mezze and grills, wok, tandoor and yakitori; terrace and balcony overlooking the square, the Corniche and West Bay
  • Liang — Cantonese and regional Chinese cuisine, including dim sum
  • Ambar — a cocktail bar inspired by the desert and the amber light of sunset, centred on a bar shaped like a glacial sculpture
  • The Mandarin Cake Shop — celebration cakes, handmade chocolates and pâtisserie
  • Qaqaw — a seasonal Art Deco-style chocolate café serving Valrhona desserts and drinks
  • Gelato — homemade gelato and frozen desserts
  • Baraha Lounge — teas, coffees, pastries and light dishes through the day, plus afternoon tea, overlooking the square
  • Aqua — a rooftop terrace beside Mosaic for light dishes and cocktails, open in the cooler months
  • In-Room Dining — available 24 hours
Swimming

The rooftop sun deck has a 25-metre temperature-controlled lap pool and a 1.2-metre-deep leisure pool, with private cabanas and sun loungers facing the skyline. Lifeguards are on duty daily, sunscreen is complimentary and a poolside menu of drinks and snacks is served. The spa adds two indoor pools, one for men and one for women. This is a city hotel with no beach.
