Pestana Palace Lisboa

About this hotel

General information

Pestana Palace Lisboa occupies the Palácio de Valle Flôr, built in 1890 as a family residence. The Italian architect Nicola Bigaglia began the project and José Ferreira da Costa completed it, with decorative work brought in from Parisian ateliers. The building and its gardens are classified as a National Monument, and the stained-glass entrance hall, the dome, the grand staircase and the gilded columns of the former ballrooms survive intact, so staying here is rather like sleeping in a museum.

Contemporary east and west wings frame the historic house, with French-style gardens between them, where several trees and plants are protected in their own right. There are 194 rooms and suites in all, and the hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The former stables and palace halls host weddings and private events.

Location

The hotel sits in Lisbon’s Alto de Santo Amaro neighbourhood, close to Belém: Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery are 2 km away, and the Lisbon Congress Centre is a 10-minute walk. The historic centre is 8 km off, about 20 minutes by car, and the hotel runs a free shuttle there. Lisbon Airport is 11 km away, roughly 20 minutes, with transfers arranged on request at extra cost. Cascais lies 30 km along the coast road and Sintra 33 km.

Spa

The Magic Spa is tucked away in the palace gardens. Massages and rituals use Natura Bissé products, and the spa area includes a dry sauna, a Turkish bath and a heated indoor pool, with the outdoor pool set in the greenery nearby.

Sports & leisure

Guests have two pools, a gym overlooking the gardens (open 6 am–11 pm), a sauna and a Turkish bath, plus the palace gardens themselves for slow walks. The hotel can arrange boat trips, guided cultural tours and tram rides around the city; car hire and electric-vehicle charging are also available.

For children

Guests of all ages are welcome. Cots for children up to 3 are free, and extra beds for children up to 12 can be added on request, subject to availability.

Restaurants & bars

Dining spans two restaurants and a bar, with room service for quieter evenings:

  • Valle Flôr — contemporary Portuguese cooking with French precision, à la carte and tasting menus in the palace’s former ballrooms; the breakfast buffet is served here too
  • Casa do Lago by SOI — Asian street food and cocktails by the lake and pool in the gardens, open in the summer months, with DJ nights on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Bar Allegro — cocktails, wines and champagne, an all-day menu and sharing boards for two

In the warmer season a garden picnic, the “Chic-nic”, is served on Saturdays.

Swimming

There is no beach. The curved outdoor pool, ringed by gardens and palms, opens in the warmer months, while the indoor pool is heated to 28 °C and open all year.

Pets

Pestana Palace Lisboa is not on the group’s list of hotels that accept pets. Assistance animals are welcome free of charge with proof presented at check-in.
