About this hotel
General information
Penha Longa Resort is the only hotel inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Its 220-hectare estate in the green hills of the Sintra Mountains once belonged to the Portuguese royal court, and it still holds parkland, gardens, lakes and forest; among the modern buildings stand a 14th-century monastery and chapel and a 19th-century palace, now used for celebrations and visited on a historic trail.
There are 204 rooms, suites and apartments with contemporary interiors and balconies or terraces facing the golf course or the natural park. The resort is known for its food — seven restaurants and bars, LAB by Sergi Arola and Midori among them — and for a 27-hole golf club designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. that has hosted the Portuguese Open. A spa with an Oriental Garden, a kids’ club, several pools and 28 event rooms, the largest for 700 guests, complete the picture. The resort is run by The Ritz-Carlton.
Location
The resort lies in western Portugal at the foot of the Sintra Mountains, within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Sintra’s UNESCO-listed palaces and gardens and Cabo da Roca are a few minutes away, and the beaches of Cascais and Estoril about 10 minutes by car. Lisbon Airport is 36 km away; there is no shuttle, but the concierge arranges private transfers.
Spa
Penha Longa Spa & Wellness covers 1,500 m² in its own building a few minutes’ walk from the main hotel and is laid out on Zen principles. Its Oriental Garden has gazebos, a whirlpool, a contrast pool, a three-metre waterfall and a contemplation labyrinth, alongside a sauna, two relaxation lounges and nine treatment rooms. Treatments use Natura Bissé, with signatures such as a ritual for two with the house Penha Longa Signature Oil, a firming facial and a deep-tissue massage. In the main building, the Wellness Center has a 24-hour gym overlooking the pools, the mountains and the golf course, private and group classes, and a hair salon.
