Olissippo Lapa Palace

About this hotel

General information

Olissippo Lapa Palace occupies a 19th-century palace built as a private residence on a hill in Lapa, Lisbon’s quiet diplomatic quarter. The terrace and upper floors look out over the city’s rooftops and the Tagus, while a subtropical garden of ornamental fountains and streams wraps around the building and turns it into an oasis in the middle of the capital.

The interiors keep their palatial grandeur. Each of the 95 rooms is decorated differently — art deco, colonial, neoclassical or Algarve style — with Portuguese fabrics, furniture and Vista Alegre porcelain, and they are split between the historic Palace Wing and the Garden Wing. The hotel has the Lapa restaurant, a summer pavilion by the pool, a river-view bar, an ELEMIS spa with an indoor pool, an outdoor pool in the garden, eight event rooms for up to 250 guests and a 120-seat auditorium. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Location

The hotel stands in Lapa, the embassy quarter on the western slope of central Lisbon above the Tagus. Lisbon Airport is 20–30 minutes away by car.

Spa

Lapa Palace SPA by ELEMIS uses products from the British brand. Guests have an indoor pool kept at 28 °C, a sauna with aromatic oils, a eucalyptus-scented Turkish bath, a cardio gym and treatment rooms offering anti-stress and muscle-tension massage, aromatherapy, shiatsu, reflexology, hot-stone therapy, lymphatic drainage and couples’ massage. The pools, sauna, bath and gym are complimentary for guests.

Sports & leisure

The garden holds an outdoor pool heated to 25 °C in the warm season, and the spa has an indoor pool open all year. There is a fully equipped cardio gym, a sauna and a Turkish bath, and the concierge arranges city excursions and car hire.

For children

A children’s pool sits beside the outdoor pool, the garden has a playground, and babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on the garden and the views over the Tagus.

  • Lapa — Mediterranean restaurant in an elegant dining room with a tasting menu; open all year, dinner only in summer
  • Le Pavillon — seasonal poolside restaurant and bar: fish, seafood, tapas, salads, cocktails and fresh juices
  • Rio Tejo Bar — bar with tall windows and a terrace above the river, serving cocktails and an afternoon tea of more than 30 teas from India, China, Vietnam and Japan
