The Reserve

About this hotel

General information

The Reserve is a hotel within a hotel in central Funchal. It occupies the upper floors of the Savoy Palace building on Avenida do Infante, with its own rooms and suites, every one of them facing the ocean. Interiors come in serenity blue, green, brown or midnight blue, and no two rooms are decorated alike.

Service is the point here. A Guest Experience Personal Assistant (GEPA) is on hand around the clock, guests are met at the airport, and every stay includes unlimited use of the Laurea Spa, access to the Jacarandá Club with its infinity pool on the 17th-floor rooftop, unpacking and packing, and check-in in the room or at the club. The Nikkei restaurant pairs Japanese technique with Madeiran produce. Guests may also use the restaurants, bars and pools of Savoy Palace, a separate hotel in the same building. The Reserve is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Location

The hotel stands on Avenida do Infante in central Funchal, 10–15 minutes on foot or about 2 minutes by car from the town centre. A greeting service at the airport is part of every stay and the hotel arranges private transfers; for guests of The Retreat, return airport transfers by BMW limousine or Mercedes minivan are included. Guests have use of the car park, with complimentary valet parking.

Spa

Inspired by Madeira’s Laurissilva forest, the 3,100 m² Laurea Spa at Savoy Palace is open to The Reserve’s guests without limit. It has 13 treatment rooms, a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, ice fountain, sensory showers, a halotherapy room and a relaxation room, along with a beauty salon and a champagne and nails bar. Treatments include dry float therapy on a cushion of warm water, and the wellness programme adds yoga, Pilates, tai chi and chi kung. Each stay includes one aromatic oil bath ritual in the room. The spa’s thermal area is for adults only.

Sports & leisure

The hotel runs its own programme of activities and entertainment, which changes through the year; some sessions carry a charge.

  • 24-hour gym for adults, opened with the room key card
  • Complimentary yoga and tai chi sessions every week
  • Cruises along Madeira’s coast aboard Savoy Signature’s private tri-deck yacht
  • Madeira wine tasting with the sommelier and a visit to the Blandy’s wine house
  • Sushi masterclass followed by lunch with the chef; afternoon tea
  • Golf breaks arranged by the hotel
  • Guided tours of the Savoy Palace gardens
For children

The Children’s Playroom is stocked with games, toys and books, with free play, colouring, film sessions, a mini disco, karaoke, group games and yoga. It is supervised, though children up to 4 must be accompanied by an adult, and themed activities are held at special times of the year. There is a children’s pool on the ground floor, and children may also use the indoor pool. Children under 2 stay free, with an extra bed at no charge.

Restaurants & bars

The Reserve’s own venues sit alongside those of Savoy Palace, which are open to its guests; dinner reservations are required throughout.

  • Nikkei — signature dinners high above Funchal, where Japanese technique meets Madeiran produce
  • Jacarandá Club — rooftop lounge, bar and restaurant for The Reserve’s guests only: breakfast, an all-day menu and, on Sundays, a four-course “Exclusively Yours” dinner with a menu that changes weekly
  • 24-hour in-room dining, private dinners in the room and breakfast served at a suite’s own pool
  • Galáxia Skyfood (Savoy Palace) — rooftop restaurant with views over the town and the ocean
  • Alameda (Savoy Palace) — light, contemporary cooking built on garden-fresh produce with flavours from around the world
  • Terreiro (Savoy Palace) — creative takes on Madeiran culinary traditions
  • Pau de Lume (Savoy Palace) — matured meats and grilled fish in a relaxed setting
  • Galáxia Skybar, Vimes Entertainment Bar and Lobby Lounge & Bar (Savoy Palace) — rooftop cocktails, live music and a quiet lounge in the lobby
Swimming

The hotel has no beach of its own: sea access is through Royal Savoy, a Savoy Signature hotel five minutes away and linked by an internal bridge, where a sea platform makes swimming in the ocean easy. On the 17th floor, the Jacarandá Club has an infinity pool, jacuzzi and solarium reserved for The Reserve’s adult guests, and the adults-only Galáxia Skypool is on the same level. There is also an indoor pool on floor −1, a children’s pool on the ground floor and the large Solarium pool at Savoy Palace. All pools are heated, to 23–26 °C. Guests may also use the pools, sun terraces and sea access of other Savoy Signature hotels on the island.

Pets

Pets are accepted under the hotel’s pet-friendly policy.
