H15 Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Krakow

About this hotel

General information

H15 Palace fills a historic palace on Św. Jana Street in Kraków’s Old Town. The site began as four separate 16th-century townhouses, complete with a stable, a bakery, a soap works and a brewery; they were later joined, rebuilt as a palace in the 18th century and given a second floor and a neo-Baroque façade in the 19th. Restoration brought painted polychrome ceilings back to light, kept the Baroque stucco, repaired an 18th-century gateway and revived the great halls of the first floor.

Antique paintings and period furniture now share the rooms with contemporary art and the soft curves of modernist pieces, across 70 rooms and suites. Below ground, the brick and stone cellars hold a spa with a pool; magnolias grow in the inner courtyard, and in summer a rooftop viewing terrace opens to guests with a panorama of Kraków. Artesse reworks old Polish recipes, while a bistro and a lounge bar occupy the palace’s historic rooms.

Location

The hotel stands at 15 Św. Jana Street in the very centre of Kraków’s Old Town, next door to one of Poland’s oldest museums; the Main Square and the Cloth Hall are a few minutes’ walk away, and the royal castle on Wawel Hill is close by. Kraków Airport lies about 14 km away. The street is within a restricted traffic zone: cars may stop at the door only to check in and unload luggage, then move on to an unguarded car park about 5 minutes from the hotel, or be handed to the valet parking service for a fee.

Spa

The spa occupies the palace’s candlelit underground rooms, with brick and stone walls dating from the 15th century. There are three treatment rooms and a VIP room for couples, used for the house rituals of massages, body and facial treatments and baths. The rituals lean on natural ingredients such as herbs, honey, wine and beer: the Luxury Aristocracy Ritual combines a full-body exfoliation, a rose-petal bath, the signature H15 massage and a facial; Whisper of The Cracow Palace pairs a Wieliczka salt scrub with a salt and rose bath and a massage; The Count and Countess Ritual brings a scrub, a massage and a soothing facial. Products come from the organic, vegan Comfort Zone line and Maria Galland.

Sports & leisure

All guests have free use of the wellness area in the palace cellars — the pool, a whirlpool, a dry sauna, a steam room and a mist shower — and of the gym, equipped by Technogym with a functional strength station, a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, an upright bike, an adjustable sit-up bench and Bowflex dumbbells for strength and cardio work. In season, the rooftop viewing terrace looks out over the city. The Main Square and the Cloth Hall, the royal castle on Wawel Hill and the museums of the Old Town are all within walking distance.

Restaurants & bars

Food and drink are served in three historic rooms:

  • Artesse — a tasting menu grown from centuries-old Polish recipes and reinterpreted with modern technique, using produce from local suppliers; the dining room sets classical art against contemporary design, with lace motifs in the plasterwork and dried-wheat decoration recalling the old bakery
  • Bistro The Hours — a bistro beneath a vaulted ceiling, with a gilded 16th-century stove and an oak bar: cocktails and small plates from the head chef, open daily from midday until late evening
  • Curiosities Lounge — a lounge bar under a coffered ceiling hung with old noble crests and surrounded by historical curiosities, for morning coffee and late-night cocktails
Swimming

The wellness area in the palace cellars has an indoor pool whose water is treated with a natural-salt system and activated-carbon filtration, alongside a whirlpool, a dry sauna and a steam room; entry is free for all hotel guests.

Pets

Dogs of up to 10 kg that are not on the list of aggressive breeds are welcome when reception is told in advance, for an additional fee; they must stay under their owner’s supervision at all times. Dogs are not allowed in Artesse, but are welcome in Bistro The Hours.
