Shangri-La Boracay

About this hotel

General information

Shangri-La Boracay occupies a sheltered bay on the northern coast of Boracay, its tropical hillside running down to two secluded white beaches, Punta Bunga and Banyugan, with green slopes and turquoise water in view from almost every angle. There are 219 rooms, suites and villas in a contemporary style, where traditional materials meet Filipino detailing, and every room has a generous balcony with a daybed.

The villas fall into three collections: Treetop high above the resort, Poolside among the gardens by the main pool, and Oceanview Sanctuary on the clifftop or right by the beach, close to the Chi, The Spa village. Arrival starts at the resort's own lounge in Caticlan, followed by a short private speedboat crossing. Care for the island runs through the details: water is bottled in glass at the resort's own plant, bathroom products come in refillable dispensers, key cards are wooden, and guests can help build reef "fish houses" that encourage coral growth off both beaches. Smoking is limited to a designated area.

Location

The resort lies in Barangay Yapak on the northern coast of Boracay, in the municipality of Malay, Aklan province. The nearest airport is Caticlan: from there it is about five minutes by private van to the resort's Mabuhay Lounge at the Caticlan jetty, then roughly 15 minutes by private speedboat along White Beach directly to the resort. Kalibo International Airport is 1.5–2 hours by road from Caticlan, and the country's main international gateway is Manila's international airport. An airport butler and a private sedan can be arranged, and a shuttle runs to White Beach.

Spa

Chi, The Spa is a detached spa village of 5,714 m² on a rocky peninsula overlooking a private bay. Every treatment includes time in the Relaxation Pavilion, the spa pool and the hot whirlpool, and treatments take place in private spa villas and garden suites. The menu covers an aromatherapy Swedish massage, the signature Philippine hilot massage, hilot with ventosa cupping, a neck and back massage, a traditional Boracay foot massage, hot stone and deep tissue massages, plus Phytomer facials, body soaks and body treatments. Children under 16 are not admitted to the spa; treatments for 12–17-year-olds are possible with signed parental consent.

Sports & leisure

A large free-form main pool is set among gardens and fountains, with a separate lap pool for swimming. The Health Club has a gym and a studio for yoga and stretching sessions, and there are tennis and pickleball courts with coaching. The dive centre runs boat dives for certified divers, courses from a first try-dive through Open Water and Advanced Open Water to specialities, and snorkelling trips: more than 20 dive sites surround the island, among them the resort's own marine sanctuary, where giant clams can be seen while snorkelling off Punta Bunga beach.

  • On the water: kayaking, catamaran sailing, kitesurfing, water skiing, mono skiing and wakeboarding, parasailing, jet skis, banana and fly-fish rides, helmet diving
  • At sea: sunset sailing, island-hopping on traditional banca boats, yacht cruises and private boat charters
  • On land: nature trails, the Entertainment Centre with video and arcade games, table tennis, billiards and karaoke, and the Eco Centre with nature walks and craft workshops
For children

The Adventure Zone is an indoor playground with a drop slide and a children's activity corner, running a daily programme for ages 5–8: arts and crafts, dancercise, pancake making and lawn games. Young divers have the Scuba Rangers for Kids programme and children's scuba courses, the Eco Centre leads nature walks, and the Entertainment Centre keeps the whole family busy. Babysitting is available on request for children aged 4 and above.

Restaurants & bars

The resort has four restaurants and two bars, plus 24-hour in-room dining.

  • Vintana Asian Café — all-day dining: Filipino and international breakfast buffet, Asian favourites, open-air tables with ocean views
  • Cielo Poolside Restaurant & Bar — casual dining by the main pool and a beach bar on Banyugan: oven-baked pizza, pasta, sandwiches, seafood and barbecue
  • Sirena Seafood Restaurant & Clifftop Bar — the signature seafood restaurant on a clifftop above the sea, with seafood platters at dinner and herb cocktails in open-air cabanas
  • Rima Treetop Dining — dinner among the treetops on the hillside by the Tree House Villas: Mediterranean dishes, grills and wines with sea views

For special evenings the resort sets up private dinners in scenic spots around the grounds and Sea Pavilion dining with a surf-and-turf barbecue or a menu by a personal chef.

Swimming

The resort has two secluded white beaches of its own, Punta Bunga and Banyugan, open to guests daily from 6am to 6pm, with calm water suited to both swimming and water sports. Beyond the beaches there is the large main pool among the gardens, a lap pool and the spa pool, and most villas have a private pool, often an infinity pool. A shuttle runs to White Beach.
