Nay Palad Hideaway

About this hotel

General information

Nay Palad Hideaway is a village of ten villas on the south-eastern tip of Siargao, set between the white sand of a private bay and an old mangrove forest. Its idea is barefoot luxury: there is no dress code, most guests go without shoes, and each day runs at whatever pace they choose. Cascading ponds step down between the palms, the villas are drawn in soft organic lines with barely a right angle, and the Tree Lounge rests on 300-year-old tree logs, with a swinging giant bed and a top terrace for yoga or tea above the sea.

The stay is all-inclusive in the fullest sense: breakfast, a family-style lunch or beach picnic, a three- or four-course dinner, drinks (except champagne and premium wines), spa treatments, manicures and pedicures, yoga, the fitness studio, most water sports, island-hopping, laundry and the airport land transfer. Menus are not fixed; the kitchen cooks to each guest’s wishes. The minimum stay is two nights, five over the holiday season, and the resort does not take day visitors.

Location

The resort lies in Malinao, in the municipality of General Luna on Siargao’s south-eastern tip, with a bay opening onto the Pacific on one side and some six square kilometres of mangrove forest and natural waterways on the other. Sayak airport is about 35 km away, a scenic 40-minute drive; guests are met at baggage claim and driven in the resort’s own jeepney or a comfortable van. Flights reach Siargao from Cebu and Clark, and from Manila via Cebu; a private charter plane, helicopter or seaplane from Cebu or Manila can be arranged on request.

Spa

The resort’s spa village offers massages, scrubs and nail treatments, all of them included in the stay. Therapists practise hilot, the traditional Filipino massage, with homemade organic oils from local ingredients, and there are baths too: the Romantic Bath with sampaguita oil and coconut milk, and the Relaxation Bath with Epsom salt and an essential oil of choice. Post-treatment tea is served in a nest among the treetops. The yoga pavilion stands four metres above the ground among the trees, facing the sea, and instructors also hold sessions in the mangrove pagoda, on the Tree Lounge roof and on SUP boards in the pool.

Sports & leisure

The activity list is long and mostly included:

  • surfing with TropicSurf, by boat to quieter breaks or to the famous Cloud 9; the resort says its instructor is on site from September to May, which it gives as the best surfing season
  • kayaking and stand-up paddling through the mangrove channels and lagoon from the resort’s doorstep; the Nature Explorer tour of a 104-hectare mangrove forest home to more than 85 bird and wildlife species, the Philippine duck among them
  • island-hopping by boat with captain and crew: the Pansukian sandbar, Daku island for snorkelling and a picnic, Guyam island
  • snorkelling, diving, Hobie Cat sailing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, skimboarding and donut rides
  • a padel court among coconut palms, a fitness studio beneath the yoga pavilion and mountain bikes
  • island tours by jeepney or van, taking in the Magpupungko rock pools and the Maasin viewpoint
  • football, croquet, badminton, pétanque and beach volleyball, a games room with billiards and foosball, open-air cinema between two palms, and cooking classes
For children

Children have the Children’s Village, with trampolines and swings under shaded woven huts, and a tree platform with slides down to a sandy play area. They can join the cooking classes, where pizza and cookies are the favourites, and toast marshmallows at the campfire. Babysitting is arranged by the resort on request.

Restaurants & bars

There are two restaurants, one on the beach and one with 360-degree panoramic views, plus a pool bar and several lounges. The cooking blends East and West with no set menu: most herbs and vegetables come from the resort’s own organic farm, and each morning the chef chooses the catch with local fishermen on the beach, where guests are welcome to join him. Dinner can be laid at more than a dozen spots, from the beach and the tree house to one of three private dining pavilions or the mangrove pagoda, and lunch can travel as a picnic to an uninhabited island.

Swimming

The villas face the white-sand beach of a private bay looking out to the Pacific. The resort has a swimming pool with a pagoda and floating loungers, the Perlah and Coral villas have pools of their own, and Perlah Villa also has a secluded private beach. Sunset swims are offered from the resort’s boat.

Pets

Pets are not permitted on the resort premises.
