Titilaka

About this hotel

General information

Titilaka is a contemporary exploration lodge on a private peninsula reaching into Lake Titicaca at 3,810 m. Four acres are bordered by water on either side, and each of the 17 rooms faces the lake. Architecture and interiors take their cue from water, light and horizon: warm, modern spaces layered with local textiles, quiet lounges with a library, terraces over the water, boardwalks along the shore and a private dock.

Stays are all-inclusive, with meals, daily guided excursions and shared transfers built in. Days take shape around the weather and guests’ curiosity – out on the water, across the Altiplano or close to the lodge – while the lounges and terraces leave room for reading, conversation and afternoon tea with the lake in view.

Location

The lodge stands on the south-eastern shore of Lake Titicaca, on a secluded private peninsula south of Puno, about 40 minutes’ drive from Puno railway station. Juliaca airport is around two hours away, as is the Bolivian border.

Spa

The lodge has a massage room.

Sports & leisure

Exploration is the point of Titilaka. Full-day guided outings cross the lake, follow highland paths across the Altiplano and visit neighbouring communities, while half-day trips reach closer archaeological sites, historic towns and ancient routes. For a few hours, guests can take a canoe, kayak or catamaran onto the water, cycle along the shore, watch native birds, stargaze or picnic by the lake. With advance planning, the journey can continue across the lake into Bolivia.

For children

Babysitting is available on request. The lodge is not recommended for children under five.

Restaurants & bars

The lake-view dining room and terraces serve Altiplano cooking made with produce from neighbouring communities: breakfast over the water, afternoon tea, sundowners and dinner. The bar, lounges and lakeside terrace pour wines from the lodge’s own cellar.

Swimming

The peninsula has two private, undeveloped shores. The lake is not suited to swimming, as the weather stays cool and windy all year, although the sun is very strong at this altitude.

Rooms

The 17 rooms are set over four levels, and every one faces the lake. Contemporary interiors with local textiles are warmed by underfloor heating.

Every room has underfloor heating, a telephone, an iPod dock, a safe, a minibar and a hairdryer.
