About this hotel
General information
Inkaterra La Casona is a 16th-century manor house on the quiet Plaza Las Nazarenas in Cusco’s historic centre, built on ground once used to train an elite Inca army. Counted among the city’s first buildings in the Spanish manner, it has received the conquistador Diego de Almagro and Simón Bolívar over the centuries, and was later declared a national historic monument.
A five-year restoration preserved the original architecture and wall murals, and the house is now an intimate Relais & Châteaux hotel of just 11 suites set around the main patio. Colonial furniture, pre-Columbian textiles and stone fireplaces give it the feel of a private home, with a round-the-clock concierge. Guests are welcomed personally, there is a daily cocktail hour and tea time, and oxygen is on hand to ease acclimatisation.
Location
The hotel stands on Plaza Las Nazarenas in Cusco’s historic centre, at 3,400 m, next door to the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. Cusco airport is about 10 minutes away by car; the hotel arranges transfers and a driver on request.
Spa
Yacu Spa has a treatment room offering massages and bespoke treatments made with locally sourced products.
Sports & leisure
The hotel arranges private half-day excursions with a guide: to the four main ruins around Cusco, including Sacsayhuamán; a city walk taking in the cathedral, San Blas and the Coricancha sun temple; to the Andean village of Chinchero with its colonial church and market; to the Maras salt pans and the circular terraces of Moray; and to Pisac, with its artisans’ market and native weavers. Cooking classes, horse riding and longer trips into the Sacred Valley can also be arranged.
For children
Young guests receive a little explorer’s kit, and the hotel singles out the Maras and Moray excursion as especially suited to children.
Restaurants & bars
The intimate dining room, with just six tables, serves Peruvian cooking based on Andean ingredients from breakfast through to dinner, while the bar is open from noon to midnight with Peruvian and international wines and spirits. Hotel guests are offered tea every afternoon, including Inkaterra’s own organic black tea, and a cocktail hour.
