About this hotel
General information
Hotel B occupies a white Belle Époque mansion in the heart of Barranco, Lima’s artistic quarter. Completed in 1914 as a seaside retreat for the García Bedoya family, it was designed by the French architect Claude Sahut, who also shaped many of the capital’s avenues, parks and public buildings. Its ornate stucco façade, open balconies and terraces, Italian marble, exotic woods and soaring ceilings lit by traditional “teatinas” skylights have been carefully restored.
Today it is Lima’s only Relais & Châteaux hotel and a private gallery in its own right: more than 300 works and installations by contemporary Peruvian artists hang throughout the house, and the curator leads guests on tours of the collection. Some rooms lie in a contemporary wing and in an annex created from the neighbouring art gallery, and the small B-Art shop sells smaller editions of the best-known pieces.
Location
The hotel stands on Avenida Sáenz Peña in historic Barranco, next to the Lucía de la Puente gallery. Galleries, boutiques, cafés, restaurants and the Pacific shore are a few minutes’ walk away; guests receive a hand-painted map of the neighbourhood’s best addresses, and bikes are available for exploring. Jorge Chávez International Airport is 22 km away.
Spa
There is no spa, but massages can be arranged in the room on request.
Sports & leisure
The programme leans towards art and food: a cocktail class with the hotel’s bar team, cooking classes and a full culinary day, Peruvian chocolate and coffee tastings, curator-led art tours (one paired with afternoon tea) and outings with a Lima Local Friend. For the active there are surf lessons and a bike-and-yoga session, and city tours cover Barranco, colonial Lima, its museums and the ruins of Pachacamac.
For children
Babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
The kitchen works with local, seasonal produce and native ingredients from purple corn to quinoa and camu-camu, and every afternoon guests are treated to tea, known in Lima as “lonche”.
