About this hotel
General information
Palacio Nazarenas occupies one of the oldest corners of Cusco, and its past comes in layers. An Inca temple once stood here; in the 16th century a private palace was raised on its stone foundations for Mancio Serra de Leguizamón, a wealthy warrior; in 1644 the Jesuits turned it into a college for aristocratic children, and it later became a convent. The Spanish colonial architecture has been carefully preserved, original Inca masonry is still visible in the walls of some suites, and a 16th-century fountain plays in the main courtyard.
There are 55 suites, two of them Signature Suites, and every guest has a butler. Beyond the cloisters and courtyards planted with Andean flora, the house has a chapel, a library, a secret garden and a boutique, along with Mauka, the restaurant led by chef Pía León, a botanical spa and a heated open-air pool. All suites are oxygen-enriched to help guests adjust to the altitude of the Andes.
Location
The hotel sits on the small Plazoleta Nazarenas in Cusco’s historic centre, a 5-minute walk from the Plaza de Armas and next to the bohemian San Blas quarter. Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport (CUZ) is a 20–25-minute drive away and Poroy railway station about 40 minutes; the flight from Lima takes around 90 minutes. The hotel arranges transfers from the airport and to the railway stations.
Spa
Hypnôze Spa is set in the former nuns’ quarters, among gardens of native healing plants, with a plunge pool in its courtyard. Treatments draw on Inca and Andean tradition: the Tikariy ritual, Kinty for two and For the Ñusta, reflexology with coca leaves, hot stone massage, and herbal and blossom baths. There is even a soap butler offering homemade soaps, and yoga classes and meditation round out the programme.
Sports & leisure
Activities at the hotel are rooted in the culture of Cusco and Peru:
- a guided tour of the building and its history
- an art and architecture tour of the chapel
- a ceramics workshop
- coca leaf reading
- a Peruvian cooking class
- a Peruvian spirits tasting with a pisco sour lesson
- yoga, a sunrise mindfulness session and Inti Tinkuy meditation
The location puts the main sights of the historic centre and the lanes of San Blas within walking distance.
For children
Children stay in their parents’ suite: the Junior Suite, Studio Suite, City View Studio Suite and Nazarenas Suite take two adults and a child under 11 in the existing beds, while the larger suites sleep up to four, with a rollaway bed for a teenager aged 12–16.
Restaurants & bars
The flagship restaurant, Mauka, is led by Peruvian chef Pía León. Her kitchen works with ingredients from Cusco and the Andes — heritage tubers, native grains and seeds — treated with contemporary techniques, served à la carte or as six-course tasting menus, including a vegetarian one, alongside cocktails infused with Sacred Valley herbs and a list centred on Peruvian and South American wines. Senzo Bar, beside the heated pool, serves small plates and pisco cocktails. The hotel also offers afternoon tea with Andean botanicals, poolside aperitivo and in-suite dining, and guests can also dine at the sister hotel, Monasterio. Breakfast is included in every stay.
Swimming
The courtyard holds a heated open-air pool, a real rarity in Cusco. Senzo Bar sits alongside.
Pets
Dogs and cats under 10 kg are welcome in two suites, Deluxe Studio Suite 102 and One Bedroom Suite 103, with one pet per suite and a pet stay fee.
