About this hotel
General information
Las Casitas is a quiet rural retreat in the Colca Valley, a landscape settled long before the Incas by the Collagua and Cabana peoples. Twenty stone cottages with tiled roofs are scattered across 24 hectares of tended gardens planted with eucalyptus, peach, pear, cherry and quince trees on the left bank of the Colca River, each with its own terrace and heated plunge pool.
Interiors pair traditional Peruvian style with modern comfort: high beamed ceilings, pale wood and vivid Andean textiles. The grounds hold a kitchen garden, a pond, a restored chapel and resident llamas and alpacas that guests can feed. The hotel hosts intimate weddings, family celebrations and small business gatherings, and at dawn guests set out for the Colca Canyon to watch Andean condors ride the thermals.
Location
The hotel lies on the Fundo La Curiña estate near Yanque in the Colca Valley (Arequipa region), 10 minutes’ drive from Yanque and about 8 km from Chivay. The Cruz del Cóndor lookout over the Colca Canyon is 45 minutes to an hour away by car. Arequipa airport (AQP) is 161 km away, roughly 3.5–4 hours over the mountains, and Arequipa is a 70-minute flight from Lima. The hotel arranges transfers from Arequipa on request; driving the unlit roads after dark is discouraged.
Spa
Samay Spa – “samay” means rest in Quechua – is tucked into the garden among eucalyptus trees, beside a small greenhouse where herbs for the treatments are grown. There is a sauna and massage rooms. Ancient Andean rituals meet modern therapies: the Altitude Massage to help with acclimatisation, the Samay Relaxing Massage, Rumi hot-stone and Itiy deep-tissue massages, foot salt treatments and clay, salt, mud or coffee body wraps. Evening rituals include the Cosmic Ritual with Hanan Pacha and moon observation.
Sports & leisure
The heated outdoor pool is built from stone quarried in the Colca Valley, and mountain bikes are free to use on the property. The hotel offers hiking and cycling routes, horse rides through the valley, including to Uyo Uyo or Achomany, birdwatching, llama and alpaca feeding, kitchen-garden tours and fishing in the trout pond. Food and drink experiences include Andean ceviche and Arequipa cooking classes, pisco and regional wine tastings, and breakfasts in the garden or at the Tapay lookout. Dawn trips to Cruz del Cóndor are arranged for a fee.
For children
One child under 11 can share a casita with two adults using the existing bedding; a rollaway bed for a child aged 12 to 15 is available on request.
Restaurants & bars
Curiña, with its open terrace, serves contemporary highland Peruvian cooking built on local, seasonal produce, some of it from the hotel’s own garden, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Puccq’io bar mixes cocktails with mountain fruit and runs pisco tastings, and in the evening it is the place for a glass of wine as the stars come out over the valley. Picnics and open-air dinners can be arranged on request.
Swimming
The heated outdoor pool, built of local stone, sits within the gardens, and every casita has its own heated plunge pool on the terrace.
Pets
Dogs are accepted only in the Garden View casitas – one per room, for a fee – with a bed and bowls provided; they are not allowed in the restaurant, spa or gift shop. Guide dogs stay free of charge.
