Waldorf Astoria Panama

About this hotel

General information

Waldorf Astoria Panama is a city tower in the centre of Panama City, a block from the waterfront and a few hundred metres from the business district. Rooms and suites look out over the city or across the Bay of Panama to the Pacific, and the interiors are quietly polished: bright marble bathrooms, Waldorf Astoria beds with down comforters and, in the suites, living rooms and kitchens of their own.

Hotel life gathers around Matiz, a Spanish restaurant with a terrace above the city, the intimate Peacock Alley bar, and a seventh-floor pool with The Bungalow bar beside it. The spa works with local ingredients, and the concierge, a member of Les Clefs d’Or, helps with tours, transport and special requests. Meeting rooms come with audiovisual equipment, and weddings are hosted for up to 170 guests.

Location

The hotel stands at the corner of 47th Street and Uruguay Street in central Panama City, in a neighbourhood of restaurants and shops a block from the waterfront. The business district is about 600 m away, Casco Viejo (Casco Antiguo), the city's historic quarter and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 5.7 km, and the Panama Canal 7 km. Panama City's international airport is 23 km away; there is no scheduled shuttle, but the hotel arranges transport and car hire on request.

Spa

The spa is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Therapists tailor massages, facials and body wraps to each guest and work with local ingredients, from volcanic-stone, chocolate and lavender rituals to foot reflexology and scalp massage. There are private treatment rooms with showers, a couples' suite, the Wave Room, where massages unfold to the sound of the ocean, and a quiet relaxation lounge.

Sports & leisure

The gym has cardio and weight machines, and the outdoor pool on the seventh floor comes with a connected hot tub and city views. The concierge arranges guided tours of the city and to the Panama Canal, as well as local transport. Guests arriving early or leaving late can use a hospitality room with TVs, a snack bar and showers.

For children

Childcare can be arranged on request.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel has one restaurant, two bars and a dining show, with breakfast served in the room around the clock; a sealed kosher breakfast box is available on request.

  • Matiz — Spanish cooking with international and Panamanian dishes on a terrace overlooking the city: a generous breakfast buffet with hot dishes à la carte, steaks, seafood and pasta from the open kitchen at dinner, a well-chosen wine list, a chef's table and private dinners, and a grill night on the terrace every Thursday
  • Peacock Alley — an intimate cocktail bar in the lobby for martinis, wines by the glass, aged rums and single malts, with a four-course set lunch and afternoon tea with sweet and savoury pastries
  • The Bungalow — an indoor-outdoor poolside bar serving light meals, local snacks, fresh juices, smoothies and tropical cocktails by day, with fire pits and sunset over the city in the evening
  • Le Petit Chef — a multi-course dinner during which a 3D animation of a tiny chef is projected onto the table; it lasts about two hours
Swimming

The outdoor pool, lined with gold tiles, sits on the seventh floor, with a hot tub alongside and loungers looking over the city; drinks and snacks are served poolside.
