About this hotel
General information
Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo occupies an entire historic compound in Casco Viejo (Casco Antiguo), the old quarter of Panama City that shares UNESCO World Heritage status with Panamá Viejo. The hotel is made up of three wings, each holding on to its own era: the Spanish Colonial wing goes back to the late 17th century, the French Colonial wing to the 18th, and the Beaux-Arts American wing to the early 20th. Restoration kept the old stone walls, lofty ceilings and arches, with contemporary interiors set carefully inside them.
Part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the hotel has 88 rooms and suites, no two decorated alike. Within the compound are five restaurants, two bars and a bakery café, along with an underground wine cellar, a spa, a sun-deck pool and a rooftop bar looking over the old town. Stone-walled, naturally lit halls host celebrations and meetings, as do 17th-century ruins beside the building.
Location
The hotel stands on the corner of Avenida A and Calle 8, in the heart of Casco Viejo in Panama City. Plaza de Francia and the Panama Canal Museum are a few minutes’ walk away, the Biomuseo biodiversity museum is about 2.4 km off and the Panamá Viejo museum and archaeological site roughly 7.4 km. Valet parking is available for guests arriving by car.
Spa
The hotel’s spa covers around 120 m², with four treatment rooms and a lounge where refreshments are served after a session. The menu centres on signature body and face treatments designed for an unhurried pace and deep relaxation.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open around the clock, with cardio machines, touch-screen ellipticals, treadmills and free weights. Between walks through the old town, the sun-deck pool is the place to unwind. In-house experiences include wine tastings in La Cava, the underground cellar holding more than 1,800 bottles from 12 countries, as well as cocktail-making classes, coffee, rum and mezcal tastings, and pairing dinners. Further afield are the visitor centre at the Miraflores Locks, a boat trip on the Panama Canal and day trips to Contadora Island and the San Blas Islands.
Restaurants & bars
Food and drink sit at the centre of the hotel, with five restaurants, two bars and a bakery spread through its historic halls.
