About this hotel
General information
The Chedi Muscat occupies a stretch of beachfront on the Muscat coast, with the Hajar Mountains on one side and the Gulf of Oman on the other. Some 21 acres of gardens frame the resort, and its signature is a series of water gardens whose reflecting pools mirror arches, regimented palms and the clear Omani light. Before drawing the plans, architect Jean-Michel Gathy spent two weeks travelling Oman to study the proportions of its old arches and doorways, so the white buildings speak the local language, while a tented entrance recalls desert gatherings.
Inside, a pared-back Asian minimalism meets Omani detailing, warm wood and lofty ceilings. The 162 rooms and suites are split between the three-storey Serai Wing and the two-storey Chedi Wing. The resort is best known for the Long Pool, at 103 metres the longest in the region; two further pools, a 383-metre private beach, a 13-room spa and a collection of restaurants and bars complete the picture.
Location
The hotel sits on the Gulf of Oman shore in Muscat, between the sea and the Hajar Mountains. Transfers from Muscat International Airport are arranged on request by limousine or minibus, with the driver waiting in the arrivals hall; for guests in Club categories the return limousine transfer is included. The concierge can also book a chauffeured car for getting around the city.
Spa
Set apart from the busier parts of the resort, the spa has 13 treatment rooms, a steam room and sauna, and a private hydro and steam bath that can be added to treatments. The menu runs from curated rituals and holistic body therapies to massage, facials, mind–body movement, treatments for couples and multi-hour reset programmes. The Sacred Desert Ceremony is the most local in spirit, built around frankincense, sandalwood, dates, figs and alum stone; the Royal Rhassoul ritual pairs rhassoul clay with argan oil. Products are organic. The spa and gym are open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The 700 m² Health Club, at beach level beside the Long Pool, has modern equipment, free weights, Pilates facilities and personal trainers, and complimentary sunset yoga is held on the Chedi Lawn. Two competition-standard floodlit Euroclay tennis courts come with free rackets and balls, and lessons with a coach can be arranged. The round-the-clock concierge organises private sailing charters, dolphin watching, diving and snorkelling over coral gardens and wrecks, golf at Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club (15 minutes away) and Al Mouj Golf, nights at a private camp in the Wahiba Sands, trips to Sur, whose harbour still works with wooden dhows, a visit to the Amouage perfume house and tickets for the Royal Opera House Muscat.
For children
There is no dedicated kids' club, but families are well catered for: The Chedi Pool and The Serai Pool welcome guests of all ages, and The Serai Pool Cabana has dishes for younger diners. Most rooms sleep two adults and a child, and the Chedi Club Suite two adults and two children, using the living-room divans. The Long Pool, spa and gym are reserved for guests aged 16 and over, and children under six are not admitted to The Club Lounge.
Restaurants & bars
Restaurants and bars are spread between the main building, the pools and the beach itself.
- The Restaurant — the main dining room, with four open kitchens covering Western, Asian, Middle Eastern and Indian cooking; a lavish breakfast buffet, dinners with live piano, a wine list guided by the sommelier, a room beneath Omani arches, a patio and two private rooms, The Khasab and The Mirbat
- The Beach Restaurant — seafood from the Gulf of Oman and beyond, cooked with a creative hand and paired with a considered wine list, on a deck above the beach or in a cool, high-ceilinged room
- The Chedi Pool Cabana — Mediterranean tapas-style sharing plates, cocktails and lounge music by the pool, with shisha in the evening
- The Serai Pool Cabana — international dishes and a bar beside the Serai Pool, relaxed and family-friendly, with shisha after dark
- The Lobby Lounge — morning coffee to evening drinks among European furniture and Omani antiques, with a garden patio
- The Arabian Courtyard — a seasonal open-air courtyard for sun by day and starlit evenings
- The Cigar Lounge — fine cigars, Mediterranean bites and Gulf views, for hotel guests and members only
