About this hotel
General information
Alila Jabal Akhdar sits on a clifftop in the Al Hajar Mountains, some 2,000 m above sea level, built so low and so close to the rock that it almost disappears into it. The views run across deep ravines to distant desert, and the clear mountain air makes the nights ideal for stargazing. Jebel Akhdar — the name means “Green Mountain” — enjoys an almost Mediterranean climate, with pomegranates, apricots and roses growing on its terraces, which is why it is known as Oman’s fruit bowl.
The architecture borrows from the region’s ancient forts: traditional building methods, heavy fort-style doors, wooden rafters, local stone and Omani motifs, all set within a clean contemporary framework. There are 85 keys — generous suites with balconies or terraces, plus two Jabal Villas with private pools. The resort is EarthCheck certified: rainwater is collected for the gardens, drinking water is produced by reverse osmosis, and part of the kitchen’s produce comes from its own hydroponic farm.
Location
The resort lies in the northern Al Hajar range on the Jebel Akhdar massif, about an hour’s drive from the old city of Nizwa and roughly 174 km from Muscat International Airport. Jabal Villa guests are given 4×4 transfers to and from the airport or the checkpoint. Those arriving by car will find free parking for 75 vehicles and a valet service.
Spa
The spa blends time-honoured Asian healing traditions with old beauty recipes based on natural ingredients, and tailors treatments to the mountain surroundings. Its signature ritual, Heart of the Mountain, combines a garden walk, a Balinese massage on the cliff edge and the making of a personal rose and lemon balm salve. A heated indoor pool and a 24-hour gym with yoga and meditation studios complete the wellness offer.

For children
The Play Alila kids’ club keeps younger guests busy with storytelling, games and arts and crafts inspired by Omani culture, while teenagers have their own Teen Zone. Families are well served by the two-level Loft Suite, which has a separate bunk-bed room.
Restaurants & bars
Juniper, the main restaurant, takes its name from the juniper trees of Oman’s highlands. It serves breakfast and dinner, with local and international dishes inspired by the golden age of Arab cuisine and built on seasonal produce from the resort’s hydroponic farm and nearby growers; some tables are outdoors, facing the Al Hajar Mountains, and the restaurant is reserved for resident guests. Rose Lounge is a softly lit, intimate space for drinks and Asian-inspired light dishes scented with mountain botanicals, at its best as the sun sets over the peaks. In-suite dining is also available.
Swimming
The outdoor infinity pool looks out over the slopes of the Green Mountain, and a heated indoor pool takes over on cooler days. Both Jabal Villas have their own private pools.
Pets
Pets are not permitted.
