About this hotel
General information
Sommerro occupies the former headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city's electricity company, on Solli plass in the elegant Frogner district. The monumental building was designed by the architects Bjercke and Eliassen and rose between 1917 and 1930, combining neoclassical proportions, functionalist lines and glamorous art deco detail. Its sober brick façade carries bas-reliefs and three carved words, Lys, Kraft, Varme – light, power, warmth – while the interiors keep murals and mosaics by Per Krohg.
Today the ten-storey house holds 242 rooms and suites and works as an open hub for the neighbourhood: a brasserie with live jazz every day, rooftop dining, an intimate cinema, a stage for concerts and stand-up, and Vestkantbadet, the bathhouse of 1932. The name goes back to Sommerroløkka, a fenced green tract where well-off townspeople escaped the bustle of the city in the 17th century.
Location
The hotel stands on Solli plass in Oslo's west end, just behind the Royal Palace, with the National Library across the street, Frogner Park and its Vigeland sculptures a short walk away and Aker Brygge, home to the National Museum, within easy reach on foot. The Flytoget airport express runs from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Nationaltheatret station in about 26 minutes; from there it is roughly 500 m (a seven-minute walk) or one stop on tram 13 or 15. A taxi from the airport takes 40–50 minutes, and drivers can use a 24-hour valet parking service with EV charging.
Spa
Vestkantbadet is a 1,400 m² wellness floor built around the art deco bathhouse of 1932, restored to its original state down to the tiles, the changing cabins and Per Krohg's monumental mosaic above the pool. The former Roman bath now houses an infrared sauna and a cold plunge pool, alongside Finnish saunas for men and women and eight treatment rooms. The menu spans HydraFacial, BABOR and Dermalogica facials, peels, classic, aroma, deep-tissue and pregnancy massage, an algae wrap and pedicures, while medical aesthetics – laser, injectables and skin analysis – are provided by the partner clinic LaserLegene. Minimum age is 16.
Sports & leisure
The 400 m² Vestkantbadet gym is open to hotel guests and members from early morning until late evening, with personal trainers on hand and a timetable of group classes: Pilates, vinyasa yoga, mobility, stretching, strength and suspension training. Guided Aufguss sauna rituals, with heat, scent and music, take place on the roof. The intimate cinema, furnished with upholstered art deco lounge chairs, screens film classics, Lysverker Scene hosts concerts and stand-up nights, and jazz plays in Ekspedisjonshallen every day.
For children
Children are welcome to stay with adults (the person booking must be at least 20), and prams and pushchairs are no problem at any age. Children from six who can swim may use the Vestkantbadet pool at weekends with an accompanying adult.
Restaurants & bars
Food and drink fill the house from the ground floor to the roof.

- Izakaya Bar & Terrace – relaxed seventh-floor bar and restaurant with a terrace, serving sushi, Japanese small plates, sake and signature cocktails over Frogner

Swimming
Vestkantbadet's restored 12.5 × 10 m pool lies in an art deco hall beneath Per Krohg's mosaic 'Swimming Women and Seals' and is open to all hotel guests. On the roof, a pool kept at 28°C all year and a sauna look out over the city; the terrace is reserved for hotel guests aged 18 and over, with access included for the Junior Suite and Heritage Suite and available to other categories for a supplement.
Pets
Dogs and cats are welcome, one per room, with dogs up to 35 kg and no breed restrictions; pets may be left alone in the room and are welcome in the lobby. A pet fee applies per stay, and guests should give notice in advance, as only a limited number of rooms are pet-friendly.
