About this hotel
General information
The Hotel Britomart sits in the Britomart precinct of downtown Auckland, a short walk from the waterfront. Designed by Cheshire Architects, it wears a skin of hand-made bricks outside and timber-lined rooms within. The building holds a 5 Green Star rating for design and build from the New Zealand Green Building Council, the only hotel in the country to do so.
There are 99 rooms and a collection of five Landing Suites. Local makers shaped the details, from ceramics and textiles to woollen pieces, and every room keeps a shelf of New Zealand books. The kingi restaurant and The Libraries lounges occupy the neighbouring heritage Masonic and Buckland buildings, where exposed brick and old timber beams remain and works by Ralph Hotere and Shane Cotton hang on the walls.
Location
The hotel is at 29 Galway Street in Britomart, a nine-block neighbourhood of downtown Auckland beside the Waitematā Harbour, where planted streets and old warehouses house New Zealand designer boutiques and dozens of places to eat. Valet parking is available, the 24-hour Britomart Carpark is two blocks away, and Landing Suite guests are offered an airport transfer.
Sports & leisure
The hotel has mapped its own running, walking and cycling routes: along the waterfront to Wynyard Quarter, through Albert Park and the Auckland Domain, out along Tāmaki Drive to Mission Bay or up the volcanic cone of Mount Eden. In The Libraries Lounge the sommelier leads tastings of five wines from a single vineyard, region or style. Landing Suite guests receive complimentary access to a Les Mills gym with classes and a personal tour of Britomart focused on fashion, food or history.
Restaurants & bars
Dining centres on New Zealand seafood and local wine.
- kingi — sustainably caught seafood on the ground floor of the heritage Masonic building; breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with the four-course Taste of kingi menu
- kingi Private — the restaurant’s private room for up to 14 guests
- The Libraries Lounge — a lounge and bar across the Masonic and Buckland buildings, open to hotel guests whenever it is not booked for a private event

Each room has a Super King bed with a luxury topper, organic cotton linen, individual climate control, a Samsung TV with casting, a minibar, Wi-Fi, built-in sofas, ceramics by local artisans, a New Zealand book collection and a tiled bathroom with organic Sans[ceuticals] products.
