About this hotel
General information
The Dylan Amsterdam is an intimate five-star boutique hotel tucked behind seventeenth-century façades on the Keizersgracht. The site has an unusual past: in 1632 the architect Jacob van Campen was commissioned to build a stone theatre here, which burned to the ground during a performance in 1772. The following year the plot passed to a Roman Catholic charity caring for the city’s elderly and poor, which held it for more than two centuries — its regents’ office, with a high ceiling, original fireplace and canal-facing windows, survives as the Regents Room.
Today there are 41 rooms, no two alike, decorated in four distinct styles that range from warm amber tones to loft suites with exposed wooden beams. They are spread across two buildings, the Original and the Serendipity, around a secluded courtyard garden with a terrace. Dining is a real draw: Restaurant Vinkeles occupies an eighteenth-century bakery. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, and its concierges belong to Les Clefs d’Or.
Location
The hotel sits at Keizersgracht 384 in Amsterdam’s canal belt, in the middle of the Nine Streets shopping district. The Anne Frank House, the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the Flower Market, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are all within walking distance. Schiphol Airport is about 17 km away — roughly 20 minutes by taxi or by train — and the hotel arranges private Mercedes S-Class transfers, as well as meet-and-assist and VIP-centre services at the airport. Drivers can use valet parking, arranged in advance, or the nearby secured Q-Park garage.
Spa
There is no spa or pool; instead, therapists come to the room for Swedish, deep-tissue and sports, aromatherapy and pregnancy massages, as well as couples’ treatments. Beauty services include facials, manicures and pedicures, hair styling and colouring, and day, evening and bridal make-up.
Sports & leisure
A compact fitness room is available, with personal training on request. The concierge team provides bikes for exploring the city, books bike and walking tours, private canal boat trips and museum tickets, and organises days out with a private guide and driver to windmills, fishing villages and the Dutch countryside.
For children
Sixteen rooms can be paired into eight family rooms: all Junior Suites Canal View and the canal-view Luxury Suites interconnect, as do a few Double, Luxury Double and Luxury Duplex rooms. One extra bed or baby cot can be added in the Superior Suite Garden View and the Luxury Suite.
Restaurants & bars
All three venues share the building, and in fine weather service spills out into the hidden courtyard garden.
- Restaurant Vinkeles — refined modern French cuisine in a former eighteenth-century bakery, with personalised wine pairings; open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday, with the Barbou room, fireplace and courtyard view, for private dinners
- até — the hotel’s chef’s table, bringing together French, Japanese and Mexican cooking
- Bar Brasserie OCCO — an informal all-day brasserie and cocktail bar: à la carte breakfast, seasonal dishes, signature cocktails by the fireplace and the High Wine, four wines with four small bites, served in the lounge or the garden
Pets
Pets are not allowed at the hotel.
