About this hotel
General information
Rosewood Amsterdam occupies the former Palace of Justice on the Prinsengracht, a monumental building in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Canal Ring. A careful conversion kept the 19th-century granite columns, carved door frames, grand staircases and lofty ceilings, and set them against contemporary Dutch design and an art collection of more than 1,000 works spanning established masters and emerging names.
There are 134 rooms and suites, including five residences known as Houses. The building’s legal past lives on in Advocatuur, a bar with its own jenever distillery, while the court’s former library has become one of the Houses. With the De Tuin courtyard garden, the glass-roofed, cobbled Courtyard, the Asaya spa and pool, a gallery of changing exhibitions and the historic salon boat Liberty, the hotel feels less like a place to sleep than a city palace opened up to Amsterdam.
Location
The hotel stands at Prinsengracht 432–436 in the Canal Ring, central Amsterdam. The Prinsengracht tram stop is about 110 m away, Amsterdam Centraal station 2.5 km and Amsterdam Zuid station 3 km. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is 15 km away; the concierge arranges private transfers and chauffeured cars, and airport meet-and-greet with fast-track formalities or a private VIP-centre service can be booked on request.
Spa
Asaya Spa brings together ancient Eastern healing, Ayurvedic principles and modern Western therapies. Facilities include treatment rooms with a couples’ suite that has its own jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, a 12-metre indoor pool, a jacuzzi and a relaxation lounge with light bites. Signature treatments include an aromatherapy massage, a deep-tissue massage paired with a CBD sleep ritual and the oxygen-boosted STURMGLOW facial. A day pass opens the pool, sauna and steam room to non-resident guests as well.
Sports & leisure
The Asaya fitness centre is open around the clock, with personal trainers and classes in Pilates (including reformer), barre and yoga. Veloretti bicycles are available for exploring the city, and the historic salon boat Liberty takes guests along the canals with Dutch delicacies on board. The hotel also arranges outings on foot or by bike to the former fishing village of Durgerdam, private tours of its art collection, jenever tastings with a look inside the distillery, sound-bath sessions and exhibitions at The Gallery.
For children
Younger guests have the Rosewood Explorers children’s programme. Families can choose dedicated two- and three-bedroom categories – connecting rooms, suites and Houses for four or six – and the pool sets aside children’s hours daily from 8 am to 4 pm. Children up to 2 stay free in their parents’ room with cots on request, and extra beds are available in some categories.
Restaurants & bars
Cooking here is built on seasonal produce from Dutch farms and neighbouring regions.
- Eeuwen – seasonal, Mediterranean-leaning restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a bar for aperitifs and a terrace in a quiet courtyard.
- Advocatuur – bar with its own jenever distillery (PRØVO), signature cocktails, Indian bites from the tandoor and a canal-view terrace; guests aged 18 and over.
- The Court – light-filled heart of the hotel for pastries, cakes, coffee and fine teas through the day, weekend afternoon tea and sunset aperitivo.
- In-room dining around the clock.
Swimming
The 12-metre indoor pool and a jacuzzi are part of Asaya Spa. The pool is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm, with children’s hours from 8 am to 4 pm.
Pets
Pets are welcome and have their own programme of beds, bowls and toys. Small and medium-sized dogs may join their owners in the indoor areas of the restaurants and bars, and all pets on the outdoor terraces; they are not allowed in the spa or fitness centre. A fee applies.
Rooms
The 134 rooms, suites and Houses fill the palace’s historic halls and attic spaces, from Deluxe Rooms to suites with private roof terraces and five butler-serviced residences. Interiors mix grey-blue and warm bronze tones, natural stone and wood with work by Dutch artists, and many categories look over the canal.
Every room has twice-daily housekeeping with evening turndown, a pillow selection, Votary bath products, a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, underfloor heating in the bathroom, a Nespresso machine and tea, a 55-inch television, a Bluetooth speaker, a personal bar, pieces by Dutch artists and 24-hour in-room dining; suites add Rivolta Carmignani bed linen and the Houses a butler service.
