Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam occupies a neo-Gothic building from the late 19th century in the Museum Quarter. Built for the national postal savings bank and later home to a music conservatory, it now sets its historic façades, arched windows and old timber beams against calm contemporary interiors of natural tones, dark wood, travertine and abundant daylight.

At its heart is a glass-roofed atrium holding The Lounge, known locally as Amsterdam’s living room, with Ottolenghi Amsterdam alongside and the Akasha spa and its 18-metre pool below. A collection of Dutch art runs through the interiors, from emerging local artists to established names, and the Glass Library shows ceramics and painting by Dutch makers. Several event rooms serve meetings and celebrations, the largest being the third-floor Symphony Room for up to 130 guests.

Location

The hotel stands on Paulus Potterstraat in the middle of the Museum Quarter, directly opposite the Stedelijk Museum. The Van Gogh Museum is a two-minute walk away, the Concertgebouw four minutes and the Rijksmuseum six; the boutiques of P.C. Hooftstraat and the Vondelpark are both two minutes on foot. The concierge arranges private airport transfers.

Spa

Akasha blends Eastern healing traditions with Western techniques. Its menu covers signature therapies, facials, beauty treatments and hydrotherapy rituals tailored to each guest. The thermal area includes an 18-metre pool, a hot tub, a heated Watsu pool, a dry Finnish sauna and a hammam. Treatments are for guests aged 18 and over; from Friday to Sunday the spa is reserved for hotel guests and members.

Sports & leisure
  • Indoor 18-metre lap pool, hot tub, sauna and hammam
  • 150 m² gym with personal trainers; 24-hour access on request
  • Yoga studio overlooking greenery, with private or small-group sessions in yoga, Pilates, meditation and HIIT
  • Watsu water therapy in a heated pool
  • Tailored city and museum experiences arranged by the concierge
For children

Children find a welcome gift in the room — their own bath products, activity books, stories and treats — and a Kids Passport that leads them through the hotel’s hidden corners. Children aged 3 to 14 may use the pool with an adult daily from 7 to 10 am and on Wednesdays from 2 to 3.30 pm; the gym, sauna, hammam and hot tub are for guests aged 16 and over. Cots and sofa beds can be added, connecting rooms suit families, and the concierge plans family outings from the NEMO Science Museum to Artis zoo.

Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on the glass-roofed atrium:

  • Ottolenghi Amsterdam — vegetable-led Mediterranean cooking with a seasonal menu built with small producers and local farms, fermentation and cooking over fire; breakfast and all-day dining
  • The Lounge — the atrium living room under the glass ceiling, with an all-day menu and afternoon tea from Thursday to Sunday
  • In-room dining — around the clock, from a slow breakfast to a late supper
