Zannier Omaanda

About this hotel

General information

Zannier Omaanda is a lodge of fifteen round, thatched huts within the private Zannier Reserve by N/a’an ku sê, a short drive from Windhoek. The huts take their cue from traditional Owambo building — curved walls, hand-laid thatch, earthy interiors furnished with antiques gathered in Namibia and across Africa. Around them stretches bushveld of grassy plains, acacias and scrub, under some of the darkest night skies on earth.

The reserve is run with the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, which rescues and rehabilitates wildlife and works on ways for people and animals to live side by side; white rhinos, elephants and caracals are being returned to the land. The all-inclusive rate covers airport transfers, full board, drinks and a shared conservation drive. The lodge is open all year and welcomes children from the age of six.

Location

The lodge sits on the Khomas Hochland plateau in central Namibia, between the capital and its international airport: Windhoek’s international airport is about 20 minutes away, Eros Airport about 35 minutes and the city itself roughly half an hour. The lodge arranges transfers from both airports, and Zannier Sonop in the Namib Desert can be reached by chauffeured car or a short shuttle flight.

Spa

The spa occupies its own thatched hut with two double treatment rooms. Massages and facials draw on Namibian healing traditions and on products made from locally grown roots, herbs and spices; each visit starts with a herbal drink, fresh fruit and a short consultation.

Sports & leisure

Every programme is shaped around the guest, with local guides and the N/a’an ku sê team leading the outings:

  • conservation drives at sunrise and sunset, shared or private with a dedicated guide;
  • rhino and elephant tracking on foot with trackers, and big-cat tracking across the reserve;
  • visits to the Shiloh wildlife sanctuary and the N/a’an ku sê research centre, and a walk alongside cheetahs;
  • sunrise yoga, stargazing and a fitness centre;
  • helicopter flights and other bespoke outings on request.
For children

Older children can meet the chef in the kitchen, play board games and join educational sessions on the reserve’s conservation work.

Restaurants & bars

Cooking leans on local, seasonal produce, served in the main living area overlooking the reserve, by the pool or in the huts:

  • Ambo Delights — a four-course Namibian dinner around a large open fire, with game, fresh fish and vegetarian dishes cooked in front of guests;
  • main living area — à la carte breakfasts and lunches of sharing plates, salads and home-baked bread;
  • Pool Bar — cocktails, juices and light bites from midday to sunset at the pool’s edge;
  • Lounge Bar — cocktails built on African botanicals, board games and stargazing around the boma fire.
Swimming

A heated 15 m infinity pool looks out over the savannah, with the Pool Bar at its edge.
