Anderssons at Ongava

About this hotel

General information

Anderssons at Ongava is one of four separate camps on the private Ongava reserve, on the southern edge of Etosha National Park. Its nine natural-stone suites have glass fronts, curved roof beams and pale-wood furniture, in a contemporary style with a light Afro-Mediterranean touch. The camp takes up to 18 guests and is the most family-friendly of the Ongava lodges.

Life here turns towards a busy waterhole, overlooked by the main lounge, the bar and a deck with a 180-degree view, while a sunken hide at water level brings animals to eye height. The camp is also home to the Ongava Research Centre, an independently funded research hub working on the reserve, and the neighbouring Discovery Centre explains its geology, wildlife, plants and conservation. The fully inclusive rate covers accommodation, all meals, two scheduled activities a day, laundry, local drinks and airstrip transfers; premium imported brands and champagne are extra.

Location

The camp lies within the Ongava reserve on the southern boundary of Etosha National Park, opposite Etosha’s Ombika Gate. It is about 470 km from Windhoek’s international airport, and roughly 430 km from Windhoek by paved road to the reserve gates. Private and charter aircraft land on Ongava’s own 1,200 m airstrip; Anderssons is the reserve’s closest camp to it, around 9–15 minutes away by road.

Spa

Spa treatments are given in the privacy of the suite: mostly massages, from soothing to revitalising, drawing on old healing traditions and modern techniques and shaped to each guest’s preferences.

Sports & leisure

Scheduled activities run twice a day:

  • game drives with an experienced guide in open vehicles that carry no more than six guests, each with an outside seat;
  • night drives with a handheld searchlight, looking for bush babies, jackals, owls and rhino;
  • walking approaches to big game with a ranger (from age 16);
  • guided excursions into Etosha National Park;
  • birdwatching;
  • wildlife viewing and photography from the waterhole hide (from age 11);
  • a self-guided visit to the Discovery Centre and the Ongava Research Centre, a short walk from the main area.

The camp also has its own boutique.

Restaurants & bars

Meals are served in a partly covered, partly open-air dining area with views over the bush. A central bar and a spacious lounge with a small library look straight onto the waterhole, so wildlife often joins the table; Wi-Fi is available in the lounge and dining area.

Swimming

The main area has an infinity-edge swimming pool.

Rooms

The camp has nine natural-stone suites with glass fronts and private decks: seven individual suites and a family suite made up of two linked units.

In each room

Each suite has climate control, a mosquito net, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer, an electronic safe, a live feed from the waterhole and a deck with a 180-degree view, with a bathroom offering a separate toilet, a double indoor shower, an outdoor shower and a double vanity.

Suite

An individual stone suite with a glass front, two three-quarter beds that can be made up as a king on request, and a private deck; for two adults and one child.

Family Suite

Two identical suites joined by a short paved walkway, each with its own entrance, bathroom and deck; for up to four adults and two children.
