General information
Rosewood Mandarina lies between rainforest and the Pacific along Canalan Beach on the Riviera Nayarit. Palm-lined paths lead to accommodations on the flatlands, right by the shore and on the mountain slopes above the ocean. Design, rituals and daily life draw on the worldview of the Wixárika and Cora peoples, who hold all life to be sacred and connected, and the grounds are filled with work by Mexican artists from the Pacific coast, including Adrián Estrada’s Wixárika beaded figures.
The resort is made up entirely of suites and villas, each with its own plunge pool. Asaya Spa is built around a locally revered Parota tree. Four restaurants and bars, four infinity pools, the Rosewood Explorers kids’ programme, polo, golf and surfing make it as appealing to couples as to families.
Location
El Monteón, municipality of Compostela, Nayarit: Canalan Beach on the Riviera Nayarit, near Punta Mita, between the Sierra Madre and the Pacific. Puerto Vallarta International Airport is about 50 minutes by car; private SUV transfers are arranged by the concierge.
Spa
Asaya Spa is built around an ancient Parota tree, and its treatments draw on the traditions of the region’s Indigenous communities: clay body treatments, breathwork, the Lost Remedies massage with herbal compresses and the signature Mara’akame Journey of flowing massage and breathing. There is a sauna, steam room, cold plunge, nail care, EviDenS de Beauté facials and pregnancy treatments; the private Social House, with its own pool and yoga area, hosts group experiences. The spa is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm, with wet areas for guests aged 18 and over.
Sports & leisure
Beach, flatlands and the Sierra Madre make for a wide range of pursuits:
- Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club: polo lessons, rides from the fields to the beach and seasonal matches from November to May
- Mandarina Golf Club by Greg Norman, nine par-3 holes plus an extra challenge hole
- tennis and pickleball courts with lessons, archery, jungle ziplines and ropes course, mountain biking and hiking
- surfing, paddleboarding and hydrofoil, with complimentary equipment at the Aquatic Sports Center; fishing, private boat trips and seasonal whale watching
- trips to the Marietas Islands and Playa del Amor
- 24-hour fitness centre, group and private classes, complimentary bicycles, tortilla and cocktail classes
For children
The Rosewood Explorers Kids Club takes children from age 5 (younger ones with a parent), with cultural activities and outdoor adventures; its walls are painted with scenes from Wixárika fairy tales. For babies there are cribs, in-room babyproofing, monitors, bottle warmers, child-sized robes and slippers and bath products; babysitting is available at extra cost. The Flatland and Poolside Suites, close to the club, beach and pools, and the multi-bedroom villas suit families best.
Restaurants & bars
Cooking celebrates seasonal produce from local farms and the Pacific coast; in-room dining runs around the clock and private dinners can be set on the beach.
- La Cocina Mandarina — all-day restaurant serving Mexican home cooking around a traditional comal, with handmade tortillas
- Buena Onda — beach shack with Spanish coastal cooking: grilled seafood, tapas, paella and sangria
- Toppu — Japanese technique and Mexican flavours on a hilltop above the ocean

Swimming
Canalan Beach has soft sand and warm water for swimming and surfing, watched by a lifeguard; the Beach Club adds loungers, private cabanas and service. The Pool Club has four infinity pools facing the ocean for adults and families, with shaded cabanas and poolside service.
Pets
Pets up to 10 kg are welcome for a fee. They may join guests in restaurants, bars and public areas on a leash or in a carrier, but not in pools, whirlpools or saunas, and must not be left alone in the accommodation.
Rooms
Suites, signature suites and villas are set on the flatlands, by the pools, on the beach and in the mountains, from studios of around 72 m² to the 782 m² Cora Mountaintop Villa; every one has its own heated plunge pool.
Private heated plunge pool, terrace, butler service, daily housekeeping and turndown, bottled water replenished daily, and outdoor showers in select suites.
