About this hotel
General information
One&Only Palmilla occupies its own headland near the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, above the Sea of Cortez. Its story began in 1956, when Abelardo Rodríguez, son of the then-president of Mexico, built a 15-room hideaway here. Today it is a hacienda-style estate of white buildings, shaded garden paths, a bell tower and a chapel.
The resort is prized for one of the few swimmable beaches in Los Cabos, for the personal host assigned to every guest and for a blend of Mexican warmth and polished international service. Accommodation ranges from rooms and suites to casitas with their own pools and two private villas, alongside a string of restaurants and bars, the extensive One&Only Spa, the KidsOnly club and a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.
Location
The resort sits in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, on Palmilla Bay, which opens onto the Sea of Cortez. Palmilla Golf Club lies next door, and the resort’s own Pelican Beach is on the shore below.
Spa
Spread over more than 2,000 m² indoors and out, One&Only Spa is the most comprehensive spa on the peninsula. It includes a hydrotherapy garden with sauna, steam room, cold plunge and hot tub, a beauty salon, the Barber & Blade grooming studio and a PEDI:MANI:CURE Studio by Bastien Gonzalez. Its hallmark is the work of a Mexican spiritual healer — temazcal, copal cleansing, a cacao ceremony and a sunrise purification ritual — while facials use Dr. Barbara Sturm skincare. Wet areas are open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
Guests have access to Palmilla Golf Club, with 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus and lessons for every level, plus two tennis and two pickleball courts. The fitness studio is open around the clock, with Technogym equipment, a Pilates reformer, a Peloton bike and TRX, and a daily programme of yoga, Pilates, HIIT and bootcamp classes. Pelican Beach offers snorkelling, kayaks, paddleboards and surf lessons; the resort also arranges yacht charters, sport fishing, whale watching, diving, off-road drives through the desert, coastal mountain biking, cooking classes and tastings of tequila, mezcal and Mexican wine.
For children
The KidsOnly club for ages 4–11 runs cooking classes, arts and crafts, beach games and tennis and golf clinics. Teenagers have an arcade room with vintage games, board games, table tennis and air hockey, and a screening room hosts family film nights. The spa has its own menu for guests aged 4–15, including treatments that parents and children share.
Restaurants & bars
Dining spans Mexican, Mediterranean and Nikkei cooking as well as a classic steakhouse:
- Agua — contemporary Mexican cooking centred on local fish and seafood, on the clifftop above the sea
- Breeze — open-air brasserie between pool and sea, Mexican dishes built on Baja produce
- Pelican Beach Bar & Grill — Mediterranean-leaning beach grill with mezze and grilled fish
- SEARED — steakhouse cooking over a wood-fired grill
- Hoshi — Nikkei cuisine, Japanese technique meeting Peruvian flavours
- Palmilla Social Club — Lucille’s Kitchen (all-day Baja cooking), Lucille’s Café (coffee and pastries) and the Sala 56 bar, overlooking the golf course
- Agua Bar — cocktails above the mirrored infinity pool and the sea
Private dinners can be set in the courtyard by the chapel, in the chef’s garden or on the beach beside a fire pit.
Swimming
Pelican Beach on Palmilla Bay is one of the few beaches in Los Cabos where swimming is safe: warm, calm water, Blue Flag certification, loungers and cabanas. Above the shore are two infinity pools facing the bay — the family-friendly Agua Pool and the adults-only Vista Pool.
