Riviera Nayarit

One&Only Mandarina

About this hotel

General information

One&Only Mandarina climbs a slope of coastal rainforest on the Riviera Nayarit, with paths leading straight down to a white-sand beach and warm, swimmable water. Standalone treehouses, villas and private homes in an eco-chic idiom sit among the canopy, their terraces looking out to the Pacific. Space and privacy come first: accommodations stand on their own, and the treehouses, Cliff Villas and Grand Villas each have a private pool.

The resort is known for Carao, Enrique Olvera’s clifftop restaurant, for One&Only Spa with treatments rooted in Indigenous and pre-Hispanic traditions, and for adventures on land — polo and riding at Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club, ziplines above the jungle and a Greg Norman golf course. Among the natural landmarks on the estate is La Abuela, a sacred tree some 500 years old, reached on a guided hike.

Location

El Monteón, municipality of Compostela, Nayarit, in the northern Riviera Nayarit between mountain rainforest and the Pacific. The nearest airport is Puerto Vallarta; private transfers are arranged on request at least 24 hours before arrival.

Spa

One&Only Spa sits within the rainforest and takes its cues from Indigenous and pre-Hispanic cultures. There is a mud grotto, a vitality pool, saunas and steam rooms facing the jungle, a couples’ treatment room and treatments in beach cabanas. Rituals include Wirikuta purification therapies, hot stone massage, temazcal and Huichol ceremonies, and facials use Tata Harper products. Bastien Gonzalez’s PEDI:MANI:CURE Studio and a hair and beauty salon complete the offer; the spa is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm.

Sports & leisure

The programme is built for every generation and skill level:

  • Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club: matches in season, polo lessons, riding and jungle-to-ocean trail rides
  • Mandarina Golf Course by Greg Norman, a 10-hole par-3 laid out on the flatlands below the mountains
  • ziplines on the Mandarina Jungle Course, trails for walking, running and cycling, and a hike to the sacred trees La Abuela and Los Nietos
  • humpback whale watching from December to March, sunset cruises and surfing with pros
  • non-motorised water sports at Jetty Beach Club; motorised sports, diving and spearfishing nearby at extra cost
  • Taco y Maiz cooking classes, tastings of regional spirits, natural wines and coffee, and trips to San Blas and La Tovara
For children

KidsOnly Club is open daily and free for children aged 4–11 (four-year-olds with a parent or babysitter), and the One Tribe teen club for ages 12–16 runs from Wednesday to Sunday. The jungle ziplines suit the whole family, babysitting can be booked 24 hours ahead and cribs are complimentary. Treehouses take children from age 10; Cliff Villas and the multi-bedroom villas work better for families.

Restaurants & bars

Menus revolve around Riviera Nayarit produce, from fresh ceviche to vegetables from the resort’s own garden; breakfasts on a villa terrace, picnics, rooftop dinners at Jetty Beach Club and beach barbecues can all be arranged.

  • Carao — Mexican cooking by chef Enrique Olvera on a clifftop above the ocean
  • Alma — Mediterranean dishes by the pool: salads, fresh pasta and wood-fired pizza; breakfast is served here
  • Jetty Beach Club — fish and seafood at the water’s edge, including open-fire zarandeado in the Nayarit tradition
  • The Treetop — a bar above the waves with seasonal cocktails inspired by ancient Mexican cultures, tastings and mixology classes
Swimming

A white-sand beach with warm, swimmable water, framed by green cliffs; Jetty Beach Club provides tables, loungers, cabanas and service. The pool beside Alma is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, and the treehouses, Cliff Villas and Grand Villas have private pools.
