General information
NIZUC Resort & Spa covers 29 acres of the secluded Punta Nizuc headland in Cancún, set between a white Caribbean beach, mangroves and a nature reserve. The concept is the work of Adrian Zecha, founder of Aman Resorts, and the contemporary architecture reinterprets ancient Maya design — carved latticework in the bathrooms, open terraces and pools that melt into the view.
Its 274 suites and villas are spread across the grounds, many with private pools, and butlers look after guests. There are six restaurants and two bars, the first ESPA-branded spa in the Mexican Caribbean, a kids’ club, a separate adults’ pool, a private pier and a tennis centre, and in the evening a Cuban band plays beside the lit reflecting pool. The resort is owned and run by Mexico’s Grupo Brisas.
Location
The resort sits on the Punta Nizuc headland in Cancún, on the north-east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, less than 15 minutes by car from Cancún International Airport.
Spa
NIZUC Spa by ESPA, around 2,800 m², was the first ESPA spa in the Mexican Caribbean and pairs ESPA treatments with Maya healing traditions. The NIZUC Thermal Experience circuit takes in an aromatic steam room, contrast showers, a sauna, an ice fountain, a hydro-massage vitality pool, a cold plunge, heated loungers and an outdoor spa pool; couples can book a spa villa with its own pool and deck. There is also a beauty salon, a MedSpa and the Longevity by Kaloni programme.
Sports & leisure
There is a main pool with a bar, a quiet adults’ pool, a fitness centre and a movement studio at the spa for group classes, yoga, Pilates and breathwork. The sand-filled artificial-grass tennis courts have a resident pro for private lessons, adult and junior clinics and racket hire. Guests snorkel the reef, kayak and paddleboard, try paddleboard yoga and head out on the resort’s yacht; evenings bring live Cuban jazz, cigar rolling, tequila tastings and cooking classes. The concierge arranges trips to Chichén Itzá and Tulum, diving and fishing.
For children
Winik’s Kids Club fills children’s days with games and activities, and there is a children’s pool and junior tennis clinics. The Residence Suites are designed for families, some with connecting rooms, and golf carts run to them around the clock. Ocean Suites are for guests aged 16 and over, while the private villas take children older than five.
Restaurants & bars
Six restaurants and two bars make the resort a serious dining address:
- Ramona — a contemporary take on traditional Mexican cooking, with a Dom Pérignon wine cellar for private tastings of up to 12 guests
- Indochine — Far Eastern classics with Asian spices and modern technique
- Ni — Peruvian cuisine with a blend of cultural influences
- Café de la Playa — à la carte breakfasts drawing on cuisines from around the world
- La Punta Grill & Lounge — grilled seafood and meat outdoors with panoramic ocean views
- Terra Nostra — Mediterranean cooking with homemade pasta and wood-oven dishes
- Bar A-Kan — oceanfront cocktail bar
- Havana Lounge — intimate cigar lounge with a wide choice of Caribbean rums
Separate kosher kitchens operate under rabbinical supervision, and private dinners can be set up in the suite or on the beach.
Swimming
The resort has two white-sand beaches, NIZUC Beach and Reef Beach. The water close to shore is clear enough for snorkelling among tropical fish.
Rooms
The 274 suites and villas fall into three areas: the adults-only Ocean Suites beside the lobby, the family-oriented Residence Suites facing the mangroves or the ocean, and private villas with infinity pools and indoor-outdoor showers. Most have generous terraces, many have their own pools, and butlers are on hand.
Freestanding deep soaking tub, rain shower, entertainment system with TVs in the bedroom and bathroom, telephone, radio with dock, Wi-Fi, minibar and Nespresso machine.
Ocean Suite
One of 44 suites beside the lobby, steps from the beaches and main pool, with a king-size bed and an ocean-view balcony. Adults 16+ only, for up to two guests.
Garden View King
A ground-level Residence Suite with floor-to-ceiling windows, a king-size bed and a terrace facing the mangroves. Up to three guests.
Garden View Double
A ground-level suite with two queen beds, a sitting area and a mangrove-view terrace. Up to four guests.
Ocean View Deluxe Double
A suite on the first to fifth levels with two double beds and an ocean-view terrace; it connects to the Master Suite. Up to four guests.
Ocean View Deluxe King
A suite on the second to fifth levels with a king-size bed, sitting area and ocean-view terrace. Up to three guests.
Garden Junior Suite
A ground-level suite with a king-size bed and a private terrace with plunge pool overlooking the mangroves. Up to three guests, good for families.
Garden Deluxe Suite
A one-bedroom suite with a king-size bed, separate living room with sofa and two terraces with a plunge pool facing the mangrove reserve. Up to three guests.
Ocean View Junior Suite
A suite with a king-size bed and a terrace with plunge pool and ocean views. Up to three guests.
Penthouse
A fifth-floor suite with panoramic Caribbean views, a king-size bed and a large terrace with plunge pool and outdoor shower. Up to three guests.
Master Suite
A suite with a king-size bedroom, living and dining area and a terrace with a large infinity pool and panoramic ocean views; it connects to the Ocean View Deluxe Double. Up to three guests.
Private Pool Villa
A villa close to the beaches and main pool, with a king-size bedroom, living room, dressing room and a private tropical garden with infinity pool and waterfall. Up to three guests.
Private Pool Pavilion Villa
A villa with a lounge pavilion linked to a king-size bedroom suite, set in a private garden with infinity pool and waterfall. Up to three guests.
NIZUC Villa
A spacious villa with a separate king-size bedroom suite, living and dining rooms, kitchenette and a rooftop sundeck, in a tropical garden with infinity pool.
Presidential Villa
A two-bedroom villa (one king, two queens) with living room and bar, rooftop sundeck and a patio with infinity pool in a tropical garden; bathrooms have deep soaking tubs and outdoor showers.
