About this hotel
General information
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, México lies within a 1,214-hectare private nature reserve on a secluded peninsula of the Costalegre coast in Jalisco, where tropical seasonal jungle runs down to the Pacific. The reserve takes in 10 km of shoreline with cliffs, golden beaches and coves; only 2% of it will ever be built on, and a single gated entrance is guarded around the clock.
The resort was designed by Víctor Legorreta and Mauricio Rocha, with landscapes by Mario Schjetnan, and its design, craft and art are Mexican throughout. The main building, La Mansión, is an open-air structure drawing on ancient Mexican architecture, with 360-degree views of ocean and reserve. There are 157 rooms including 63 suites, plus villas and beach houses, three restaurants, a spa with a temazcal, a golf course, the resort’s own Rancho Lola farm and a Discovery Centre where biologists have studied the reserve for almost three decades.
Location
On the Tamarindo peninsula, Costalegre, Jalisco. Manzanillo-Costalegre International Airport (ZLO) is about 50 minutes away by car (44.7 km), the last 15 minutes through the jungle of the reserve; Puerto Vallarta is 3 hours 50 minutes by road and Guadalajara around 5 hours. The resort arranges transfers; ZLO has daily flights from Mexico City (about 50 minutes) and handles private jets, and yachts can berth at the pier on Tamarindo Beach.
Spa
The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo spreads over some 2,800 m² of indoor and outdoor space between sea and jungle. Eight treatment cabins each have a private open-air shower and open onto greenery; the Signature Copal Body Treatment uses resin from the reserve’s own trees, and a traditional temazcal recreates the pre-Hispanic “house of heat”. There is a steam room, plunge pools, lounges, a Zen garden of Oaxacan red clay, a beauty salon and couples’ massages in the villas. Guests from 14 may use the spa with adult supervision.
Sports & leisure
The whole reserve is a playground:
- a 24-hour ocean-view fitness centre designed by Harley Pasternak, with Pilates reformers and Peloton bikes; outdoor yoga, HIIT and Pilates classes
- El Tamarindo, an 18-hole, par-72 links-style course by David Fleming along the rocky coast
- 42 km of trails, guided hikes and birdwatching with resident biologists, and the Discovery Centre
- a water sports centre with kayaks, paddleboards, snorkelling and water bikes
- a resort pier for sailing, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and outings with local fishermen
- Rancho Lola, a 14-hectare farm, with cooking workshops
- e-bike tours, stargazing nights and dawn beach runs with the Run Concierge
For children
Caramelo, the Kids For All Seasons programme for ages 5–12, runs daily activities in a sunlit play space, on the beach and in the reserve — spotting birds, picking fruit for juice, studying insects and trees. Teens from 13 have their own tech-equipped hideaway, Escondite. Certified babysitters, family pools on the upper levels, family barbecues on Majahua Beach and outdoor film nights complete the picture.
Restaurants & bars
The cooking tells the story of Costalegre’s traditions, with much of the produce coming from the resort’s Rancho Lola farm.
- Coyul — seasonal Mexican cooking in partnership with chef Elena Reygadas, for breakfast and dinner, with cocktails and small plates at sunset in Coyul Bar
- Sal — the day’s catch, above Majahua Beach
- Nacho — a relaxed poolside taqueria drawing on Mexico’s most varied culinary regions
- Pool & Majahua Beach — food and drinks by the three pools and on Majahua Beach
- In-Villa Dining and private dinners in secluded corners of the reserve
Swimming
The reserve’s coast has three swimmable beaches and several secluded coves for snorkelling, with full food and drink service on the beach and by the pools. Infinity pools cascade down the hillside in three levels: family pools at the top, then a quiet pool and an area of private cabanas. Every suite, villa and beach house has its own pool.
Pets
Dogs and cats of any size are welcome, and find a mat, bowl, treats, towel and a pet services menu in the room. Pets are not allowed in the indoor restaurants and bars, at the pools, on the golf course, in the spa, the forest areas, Escondite or Caramelo, and should not be left alone in the room.
