About this hotel
General information
The Residence Mauritius lies on the island's east coast, between tropical gardens and a beach of white sand roughly 1.6 km long. It is a classic resort with a calm, refined mood: light interiors, shutters that soften the daylight, marble bathrooms, and a few drops of ylang-ylang oil in every room each evening.
With 135 rooms and 28 suites it stays relatively intimate for its size, and it works as well for families as for couples: children have a large club by the beach, adults a spa in its own pavilion in the gardens. Four restaurants and bars move between world and Creole cooking, with part of the produce coming from the resort's own farms, and a personal butler can be assigned to any room on request.
Location
The hotel sits on the coastal road at Belle Mare, on the east coast of Mauritius, opening straight onto an Indian Ocean lagoon. Transfers from Mauritius International Airport and car hire are arranged by the hotel.
Spa
The Sanctuary occupies a separate pavilion in the middle of a tropical garden overlooking the lagoon, with ten treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi and a hair salon. Skincare is by Natura Bissé. Signature treatments include The Sanctuary Ritual — dry brushing with coconut husk, a coconut scrub and a deep-tissue massage with aromatic oils — several facials, and house-made scrubs of rice and honey, coffee or alum stone. Longer spa programmes are also offered.
Sports & leisure
Activities on land and on the water:
- fitness centre, two floodlit tennis courts with lessons, and beach volleyball
- watersports centre: windsurfing, Hobie Cats, kayaks and canoes, pedal boats, snorkelling and a glass-bottom boat at no charge, as is water-skiing
- scuba diving, catamaran cruises, undersea walks and ziplining
- a Creole cooking class and excursions around the island
- an 18-hole championship golf course near the resort
For children
The Planters Kids Club covers 400 m² a few steps from the beach. Its programme runs from treasure hunts and snorkelling to cooking classes and picnics, and children have their own buffet lunches and dinners. Babysitting is available on request.
Restaurants & bars
Four venues cover the day from breakfast to late evening:
- The Dining Room — contemporary world cuisine with Mauritian spices, overlooking the pool; breakfast, and in the evening a buffet or set menu
- The Verandah — light poolside lunches with sea views: toasted sandwiches, oven-baked pizza, large salads and house-made ice cream
- The Plantation — oceanfront restaurant for seafood and Creole cooking, open for lunch and dinner
- The Bar — traditional afternoon tea by day, cocktails, local rum and live music in the evening
Earth Basket dining builds menus around produce from the resort's own farms.
Swimming
The resort opens onto a white-sand beach of about 1.6 km along a turquoise lagoon. The pool is framed by the terraces of The Verandah and The Dining Room, and drinking-water stations stand by the pool and on the beach.
