Sofitel Mauritius L'Impérial Resort & Spa

About this hotel

General information

Sofitel Mauritius L'Impérial Resort & Spa lies on the sheltered west coast of Mauritius, where lush tropical gardens run down to soft white sand and a calm lagoon. The resort pairs a French sense of style with Mauritian hospitality, and its Asian touches — a Japanese garden, a spa shaped like an Eastern sanctuary — give it an unhurried, contemplative feel.

At its centre is a vast swimming pool, one of the largest on the island, while adults have their own infinity pool and bar, Le Flamboyant. The eco-certified resort suits couples and families alike, with Sofitel Spa, a gym, a kids' club with its own pool and a choice of restaurants and bars — though the beach and the sunsets over the Indian Ocean remain the real draw.

Location

The resort sits right on the beach on the west coast of Mauritius, close to the resort town of Flic en Flac. The Port Louis waterfront is about 25 km away and the shops of Tamarin about 11 km; parking is free for guests.

Spa

Sofitel Spa is laid out as an Asian-inspired sanctuary, its treatment rooms — some for couples — arranged around the spa's own pool. There is a sauna, a hammam, a relaxation area with herbal teas and views of the Japanese garden, plus a beauty parlour and hair salon. The menu covers Nirvana massages, a Mauritian massage, body scrubs, facials and beauty rituals, and each visit opens with a welcome ritual.

Sports & leisure

The Sofitel Fitness gym, fitted with Technogym equipment, looks out towards the mountains; it can be opened early in the morning or late at night on request, and trainers are on hand. Aquagym takes place in the pool every day at noon, live bands play in the evening, and Mauritian buffet nights come with a stage show. The nearest golf course is 5 km away (about 15 minutes by car) and is not part of the resort; quad biking is also available nearby.

For children

The kids' club, for ages 4–12, occupies its own villa themed on Le Petit Prince and opens daily from 08:30 to 19:30. Its programme includes pool games, arts and crafts, a talent show and cinema evenings, supervised beach walks to collect seashells and sessions where children make and fly their own kites. The club has its own pool and playground, and children can have lunch there from a kids' menu.

Restaurants & bars

The resort's restaurants and bars are set around the pools and on the sand.

  • Ravinala — poolside restaurant for breakfast and for dinner buffets and barbecues themed each night on Mauritius, France, Italy or India
  • Ming Court — Chinese and Japanese cooking with Mauritian market produce, overlooking the main pool
  • Teppanyaki — Japanese teppanyaki cooked in front of guests
  • Tamassa Beach Restaurant — beachfront lunches of grilled fish and meat and Mauritian dishes such as palm heart salad and smoked fish
  • Kestrel Bar — beside the lobby with lagoon views, signature cocktails and a piano
  • Tamassa Bar on the Beach — light afternoon snacks, tropical sundowners and live music every evening
  • Le Flamboyant Pool Bar — adults-only pool bar in the north wing, tropical cocktails at sunset

In-room dining is also available.

Swimming

The resort faces a wide beach of fine white sand and a calm lagoon with coral reefs and colourful fish, with sunloungers on the sand. The Opera and Imperial Suites open directly onto the beach. The main pool, one of the largest on the island, is well suited to families, while the Le Flamboyant infinity pool is for adults only; it is heated in the cooler months, when supervised children may use it too.

Pets

Pets are not allowed.
