General information
Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort sits on the south coast of Mauritius, within the 2,500-hectare Bel Ombre estate that runs from the hills down to the lagoon. The resort follows the lines of an old tropical manor: low buildings with deep verandas are spread through gardens crossed by a river, and the suites have wooden floors, four-poster beds and freestanding baths. It is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and holds Green Key certification.
Accommodation is suites only — 158 of them — each looked after by a resident host. A separate wing for guests aged 16 and over has its own heated pool and beach bar. The resort is best known for golf, with two 18-hole championship courses close by, and for a large spa set in the gardens, with a wide choice of restaurants across the estate.
Location
The resort lies at Bel Ombre on the unspoilt south coast of Mauritius, inside a UNESCO biosphere reserve, between a mountain range and the turquoise lagoon of the Indian Ocean. Transfers from Mauritius International Airport are arranged on request, and a free shuttle runs all day between the estate’s restaurants, golf courses and beach club.
Spa
Heritage Spa & Wellness covers 2,500 m² of tropical garden: nine treatment rooms, six of them for couples, two open-air treatment pavilions and a honeymoon suite, plus a steam room and sauna in separate areas for men and women. There is a vitality pool with bubble loungers and hydromassage jets, a sensory shower, the Wellness Sanctuary relaxation area, a hair salon and a manicure and pedicure studio. Signature treatments use Seven Colours products, with Thalion for face and body care. Group sessions of yoga, Pilates, tai chi and breathwork run daily, and for longer stays a specialist puts together a personal programme of massages, sessions and nature walks.
Sports & leisure
Activities on land and water include:
- the Bel Ombre estate’s Heritage Golf Club: the 18-hole championship Le Château Golf Course and the private links-style La Réserve Golf Links, a Golfzon Leadbetter academy, driving range and putting green, with a free shuttle from the resort
- a fitness centre, floodlit tennis courts, a padel court, beach volleyball, beach tennis, table tennis and snooker
- a water sports centre: Laser dinghies, kayaks, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips; windsurfing, kitesurfing lessons, scuba diving and catamaran cruises at extra cost
- mountain bikes, horse riding, quad, buggy and 4x4 trails in the Bel Ombre Nature Reserve, guided hikes through the biosphere reserve and a climb up Le Morne Brabant
- helicopter and seaplane flights over the lagoon, and island excursions
For children
Baby Timomo looks after children from birth to three years free of charge every day, with nannies trained in first aid. Timomo Kids Club takes children aged 3–12 by day and in the evening: a heated pool, swimming and tennis clinics, golf initiation, art workshops, kite-making, treasure hunts in the garden and visits to a marine education centre, then stargazing, outdoor films and pyjama parties after dark. For teenagers aged 12–17 the sports team runs tennis and beach volleyball tournaments, bike rides and golf initiation, with horse riding, quad biking and kitesurfing lessons at extra cost. In-room babysitting can be booked 24 hours ahead.
Restaurants & bars
The resort has several restaurants and bars of its own, and guests can also dine across the Bel Ombre estate:
- Annabella’s — the main restaurant in grand brasserie style: breakfast, à la carte dinners with live cooking and culinary workshops, and a daily wine and cheese tasting
- Gin’Ja — pan-Asian cooking on the sand overlooking the lagoon, with a teppanyaki table
- Le Palmier — a beach restaurant for seafood, palm heart and local dishes at lunch and dinner
- The Cavendish Bar and Lounge — a piano bar with a library, a collection of Mauritian rums and a snooker table
- Le Kiosque Gourmand — homemade ice cream, sorbets and pancakes in the afternoon
- La Case — snacks and drinks on the beach beside the adults-only area
- C Beach Club — the estate’s restaurant and bars on the lagoon, with a Mediterranean menu and a Sunday brunch
- Le Château de Bel Ombre — gourmet Mauritian cuisine built on estate produce, in a historic manor house set in French gardens
- Le Château Golf Course Clubhouse and La Réserve Golf Links Clubhouse — the golf club’s restaurants, looking over the fairways and the ocean
Swimming
The resort opens onto a kilometre of white sand along a protected lagoon. Towels, fruit skewers, flavoured water and ice cream are served at the pool and on the beach. The adults-only area for guests aged 16 and over has its own heated pool, and the kids’ club has a separate heated pool.
Rooms
The resort has 158 suites in twelve categories, from the 54–62 m² Deluxe suites to the 104 m² Ocean Suite Beachfront; some stand directly on the beach, and four categories sit in a separate wing for adults.
Every suite has a balcony or terrace, air conditioning and a ceiling fan, free Wi-Fi, an interactive TV, a minibar, an espresso machine, a kettle with tea and coffee, a safe, a bathroom with bathtub, separate shower and separate toilet, bathrobes and slippers, 24-hour room service and a resident host.
